After Wave: Downfall is an arcade title that is sadly tedious. With underwhelming and repetitive action, it somewhat misses the mark. Thankfully, its aesthetics keep it from being a total flop, but this wasn't enough to impress me.

Though not the flashiest, After Wave: Downfall is a pretty good release for fans of the shooter genre. While it has a dated look, the water theme and enemy diversity make it a somewhat unique game that I'd recommend for co-op players. While tackling it solo is less enjoyable, there's more than enough to keep you busy here, and you'll have to play for quite a while before you unlock everything.

After Wave: Downfall was a game I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. It was chaotic and challenging and whilst some will love the fact achievements pop so quickly, I kind of wished they were a bit more difficult to get. The reason for this is some may simply get the 1000 gamerscore and then leave the game alone, and it deserves better than this.

After Wave: Downfall doesn’t do anything to stand out as a shoot ‘em up but it can still provide some fun, frantic action for fans. I would wait for a sale personally as I think that for a bit of a lower price you’ll be getting a pretty decent game here with some fun modes that you can play alone or with a friend.

After Wave: Downfall is an arcade-style game that lacks refinement yet it's still undeniably compelling thanks to its frantic gameplay and enjoyable co-op implementation. Plus, the fact that you can unlock all sorts of upgrades and extra content is a nice bonus.

An interesting take on a shooter, but some wonkiness makes it hard to reach its level of ambition

After Wave: Downfall isn’t a game we can recommend. There are plenty of other vertical scrolling shooters out there, and many of them are more worthy of your time and money. Still, if you do happen to pick it up you might have some fun with it, and it’s at least got an original premise at least. But with its various issues, it feels very much like a missed opportunity.
