Atomic Heart: Trapped in Limbo

A disappointing mix of ideas that ends as an exhausting Temple Run clone, Atomic Heart: Trapped in Limbo gets less fun the longer it goes goes on.

"When chaos becomes a long minigame" The expansion offers a completely bold experience that breaks with the original Atomic Heart's identity in favor of a fast-paced, surreal platforming style. Despite the strength of the visual identity and music, the repetition and lack of narrative and mechanical depth make the experience feel more like an extended beta than a full-fledged expansion.

Trapped in Limbo, the second DLC of Atomic Heart, is wrong. So wrong. Wrong in the way it wants to tell something, wrong in the attempt to turn the game into something else, wrong in intent and form. Hopefully Mundfish will heed these criticisms, but this is two DLCs out of two that fall far short of expectations. How many more times can we forgive them?

Atomic Heart – Trapped in Limbo is unfortunately a somewhat weak DLC, where the story and visual sector are saved, but it falls short on the main part: the gameplay.

"Prisoner of Limbo" turned out to be quite a distinctive DLC, in which the developers tried to move away from the usual gameplay of Atomic Heart.

The second story expansion of Atomic Heart, titled Trapped in Limbo, focuses less on continuing the game’s ending and more on offering a fresh and diverse experience while providing additional insights into the game’s story and characters. Fortunately, this expansion succeeds in that regard, delivering a completely different gameplay experience that keeps players entertained. Thanks to its variety of enjoyable mini-games, captivating music, and outstanding visual presentation, players will enjoy this expansion until the very last moment.

As disappointed as I was with the first DLC I think I dislike the second one even more. It’s a mishmash of unenjoyable mini-games, and while the music is great the gameplay is not.
