Looking at Battlefield REDSEC, it becomes clear that EA still hasn't fully thought through its post-launch support concept. In pursuit of content, the company released an outright raw battle royale that has proven to be hardly needed by anyone, judging by the Steam online statistics. And only the Gauntlet mode justifies the existence of this free-to-play offshoot.

A safe and well-executed mode, which relies on the extremely strong foundation of Battlefield 6. For now, it may not define the future of the genre, but it fulfills its role by expanding the game's reach and offering immediate fun for those seeking something free and technically refined.

Battlefield RedSec is a smart, confident BR that respects your time and rewards good teamwork. The gunplay is crisp, destruction is a real tactic, and the circle keeps matches decisive.

Battlefield REDSEC has started fairly strong, but I can’t help but question its longevity and replayability. Launching as a free-to-play model is a great start, but after spending a huge chunk of time within the mode, it does get stale in comparison to other contenders like Warzone and Fortnite. That isn’t to say I haven’t enjoyed my time here; it has some unique moments of its own. Destruction is a big strong point, and firefights can be very intense. One thing I do admire here, though, is that you don’t just have everyone running wild with souped-up loadouts. Finding amazing weapons is quite rare without upgrading them, and you can still compete against players who take guns from the custom drops. The real excitement and draw for me personally was in the new Gauntlet mode. It remains to be seen whether Battlefield REDSEC will survive in the long run. There are some solid foundations here, but there needs to be more points of interest, more reasons to explore and more variance in squad challenges before it gets too stale.

Battlefield REDSEC is a concrete and largely successful proof of how the Battlefield franchise can adapt to the free-to-play battle royale format without giving up its iconic identity.

Far from reinventing the wheel, RedSec slots neatly into Battlefield 6 as a competent battle royale mode. While the future could splinter into some question directions, it's a strong start.

It’s Warzone-coded, and in many ways, that makes sense, because the leadership team piecing REDSEC together has that in their blood. Ultimately, REDSEC doesn’t offer anything in the way of any huge innovations on the Battle Royale genre, but it is a decent entry into the space that should at least be tried.
