Beyond Galaxyland is a well-written, artistically diverse space adventure which mixes several different flavours of RPG with puzzling and semi-open exploration. The story is filled with well-rounded characters and emotional narrative payoffs and, as much as Enright's galactic adventure is a collection of stylistic and mechanical homages, it doesn't feel like a patchwork of fan service. For all its influences and adherence to specific genre execution, Doug's journey through multiple worlds is still very much its own thing.

It may spread itself a little thin in pulling from so many influences, but Beyond Galaxyland offers a decent story, intriguing graphic design, and compelling combat dynamics.

An artfully crafted project that has a head, a heel and even a background that makes you turn your back. But otherwise it's an empty vessel that doesn't tell stories where it could.

Well, I am glad I listened to all the great feedback about this game and picked it up for a review. If you’re into RPG titles with simplistic turn-based combat that doesn’t have you diving into millions of skill trees and classes, then you’ll love the experience. This will go down as one of the most memorable indie titles I have played not just in 2024, but probably ever. Every year I collate a pot of indie titles that are bordering on masterpiece status, games like Cuphead, Cult Of The Lamb, Deaths Door and Balataro. This belongs in that pot and stays there for sure, and is worth every single penny of the £14.99 asking price. As indie titles go, this is a must-buy, don’t even hesitate just go and play it.

Beyond Galaxyland is still among the games that are entertaining and have some charm and mystery which will make players stay. Fans of sci-fi adventures who have an affinity for indie titles should absolutely check out this title. The mixture of an interesting plot, character relations, and a beautifully designed universe makes it a game that is worth exploring even if some portions of the game could use some refinement.

What a game! I didn’t know what to expect when looking into the details of Beyond Galaxyland. Although its charm, beautiful graphics, and characters soon won me over. I will definitely continue playing through this game. I’d recommend anyone with a love of narrative-based pixel games to try this out. It’s such an enjoyable game full of challenging combat, and puzzles but mostly heart and character. I award Beyond Galaxyland the prestigious Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Beyond Galaxyland is one of those titles that you come across by chance and end up being surprised by its charm and quality. An RPG, perhaps too classic, that doesn't delve too deeply into its combat system,

Chock-full of 80's vibes and sci-fi fun, Beyond Galaxyland is a grand old time. It does stumble occasionally, but the overall package gels together to make Doug and Boom Boom's debut a memorable one.
