Blasphemous 2: Mea Culpa Edition is a masterful continuation of the series, refining and expanding upon the foundations laid by its predecessor. It successfully captures the essence of classic Metroidvanias while forging its own identity through its unique art style, lore, and gameplay mechanics. The Mea Culpa DLC seamlessly integrates into the main game, adding substantial content and challenges that will test even seasoned players. While the questline within the DLC may require some backtracking, the rewards are well worth the effort, offering a satisfying sense of accomplishment.

Mea Culpa is the satisfying DLC of Blashemous 2 sewn gracefully on all lovers of the main adventure. More challenging in the boss battles and more complex in the platforming stages, in the three hours or so of gameplay, the game also reveals some surprises related to the saga's history that fans cannot ignore.

While my time spent with Mea Culpa and Blasphemous 2 was frustrating to say the least it was still very enjoyable with the DLC adding a lot of new content. Even if you must go back through areas you have already explored, but what would a Metroidvania be without a little bit of backtracking?

Mea Culpa not only complements Blasphemous 2, but also improves it in several aspects, although it may lack a bit of balance, especially if we face it with a game already completed. Despite not being perfect, Mea Culpa is an essential expansion for fans of the franchise, and if you enjoyed Blasphemous 2 you will not be disappointed.

The Game Kitchen brings back the mythical sword Mea Culpa in a bittersweet DLC that lacks in narrative terms, but enriches the playability of the best metroidvania of 2023. The return of some iconic characters and, of course, of the mythical sword feels like a caress. However, these two elements were so well developed in the first installment, that here they just feel like a sort of fan service.

Mea Culpa is a DLC of unquestionable value. It offers the best platforming sections of Blasphemous 2, some of the best bosses in the series, and also an engaging story, thanks to the ludo-narrative importance put back on the title's sword. True Torment sets the stage, and Mea Culpa takes Blasphemous 2 to the next level. There is no better time to venture into the evocative streets of Cvstodia. The ascent to penance never ends.

Mea Culpa and its free update complete a work that was already almost perfect. The two new areas and the new storyline encourage us to once again don the Penitent's hood to slay all those infidels who cross our path.

Mea Culpa brings good content to Blasphemous 2, especially for those who want to relive the experience of a new campaign. For those who prefer to focus only on paid content, the return of the legendary Penitent's sword and the addition of new areas and challenges guarantee a few hours of fun, despite leaving the impression of being a short expansion.

Mea Culpa and the free update add everything that could be missing in Blasphemous 2, complementing and improving a game that was already fantastic.

The Mea Culpa DLC didn’t leave us as awe struck as Blasphemous 2 did in 2023, but the time was worth the wait to take on the role of the penitent one again.
