Despite some minor story flaws and voice repetition, the overall experience is impressive and well worth a try, especially for fans of action and a challenge.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect is a very fun game. Although fans may be disappointed to learn that it isn't truly a part of the BlazBlue series, the game's original story and roguelike gameplay more than makes up for it. Being able to use fan favorite characters like Ragna, Noel, Jin, and Lambda is great, but even without the BlazBlue representation this would've been a solid game. Every single character is unique, there are customization options to make the game easier or harder, and the combat simply feels great. There is some repetitiveness, sure, but simply changing your character or going with a different build will greatly change the experience. It is a game that is easy to come back to from time to time, with each run only taking up 10 to 20 minutes of your time. A perfect pick up and go title, that also thankfully saves mid run! For sure worth checking out even if you do not know a thing about the BlazBlue characters featured here.

BlazBlue: Entropy Effect manages to somehow convert the fighting franchise to a 2D sidescrolling platformer without losing the charm at its core. The characters, and there are plenty to choose from, all feel like the characters should if they were facing off against each other, with some minor amount of change to make them function in their new surroundings. Within that is a fun roguelike that keeps your earning abilities and upgrades run after run, and gives you the flexibility to take those builds even further, though at the risk of simply breaking your character when the next run starts.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect stands out for its intense gameplay and stylized visuals, offering fluid combat full of possibilities. The variety of characters with unique styles makes the matches exciting, and the combo system provides strategic freedom. On the other hand, it lacks depth in some aspects: the roguelike elements have little impact, with repetitive stages and some confusing mechanics. Still, the game delivers good action moments, especially for those who appreciate the BlazBlue universe and its exaggerated style.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect manages to deliver a really fun and fast-paced hack-and-slash experience while still respecting the characters and how they originally played in their fighting game appreances. It feels fantastic to upgrade your character as you progress through runs, and the Evotype system lets players constantly get stronger in a really interesting way.

I can’t help but feel like the BlazBlue branding in Entropy Effect feels tacked on, almost like a last minute addition to ensure some extra sales, but as a game, it’s actually a pretty good roguelike. It looks good enough, and its combat and powerup systems are really solid. Even though I didn’t care at all about its plot, I got hooked on its gameplay loop. At the end of the day, that’s what really matters. It might be BlazBlue in name only, but this little roguelike is a welcome surprise regardless.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect presents itself to the player with style and a strong personality despite being a spin-off. The Characters are extremely refined and charismatic. The game shows its best in gameplay. Frantic, fast, satisfying and extremely varied. Despite this, a certain brevity of the main narrative arc and the few stages could discourage more “casual” players from replaying. An excellent title that gives hope for the future of this year.

All together in combination with the direct controls you get a lot of fun with a "one more run" spiral, what you would expect from a roguelike. Sadly the confusing story and less integration from the excellent Blazblue Cast brings the whole game down a bit. It is not the next Hades or Dead Cells but fans of the genre will still have a lot of fun with it.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect expands the fighting game saga to the roguelite genre, with a very colorful artistic proposal, enriched by a varied gameplay full of possibilities. 91Act did a truly spectacular job, demonstrating that a saga can leave the margins to which we are accustomed and still be wonderful.
