Brawl Chess: Deluxe Edition

Unfortunately the game in its current form, is just a first draft. Better to stick with your home chess set, for now.

Despite being just a chess game, there are no real selling points to recommend this over any of the others out there. There's no extra modes, no tutorial and the game is marketed as being something it's not. This is a gambit you should not bother taking.

Newcomer friendly, but veterans may grow bored.

Brawl Chess is strictly adequate. It's hard to screw up chess badly, but as a video game, the aspiration in this take (or lack thereof) is pretty average. While targeting kids with a cartoony, less violent take on the Battle Chess formula is noble, overlooking a tutorial is a head-scratcher, to put it mildly. DLC is also highly questionable at best. Think long and hard on this one if it isn't on sale.

Seeing this title immediately brought back fond memories of the classic Battle Chess, which was generally pretty enjoyable even if I was never very good at playing the game...
