Bulb Boy

I'm a big fan of the art style, animation, and cute yet creepy nature of Bulb Boy that reminds me of cartoons from my childhood. Like for real, this is probably the closest thing we will ever get to a proper Courage the Cowardly Dog game, so if you have nostalgia for that show, pick this up. The two-hour length and lack of replayability will probably be a turnoff for some, but if you're like me, you're desperate for content to play on your Nintendo Switch and for $9 you could do much, much worse. Trust me on that one.

Bulb Boy won't stay in your memories forever; it is a relatively small game that shouldn't take too long to complete, but whilst it lasts it offers nicely designed puzzles and an underlying humour that offers a different experience. It is clearly lovingly put-together and refreshingly manages to make horror cute and fun, rather than taking itself seriously. Bulb Boy didn't take our breath away and isn't revolutionary, but its appeal comes in the form of its characters, craziness and toilet humour – a deadly combination that deserves to be played.

Bulb Boy in a pretty good style fits in the convention of puzzle games, adding several ideas from platformers and completing it with an unique artistic setting.

Bulb Boy is interesting and pretty game, but it's still too short and lacking too much to justify its price.

You’ll have to be a fan of the puzzler genre, need to be used to the slow rhythm of a point and clicker, and be prepared for the strange and the unusual, but if you’re up for that, or are a fan of games like Mr Pumpkin Adventure, then you will love Bulb Boy.

A small game, but worth your time. An audiovisual package that many games aim for but never reach, Bulb Boy is a fine example for great creative talent. It is a shame that the game hurts itself a little by being a little light on content.

Bulb Boy managed to hit the perfect combination of linearity, instinctiveness and charm.

Bulb Boy may not boast the largest content ever seen and while it comes across as too linear and its lifespan feels rather short, it also has several interesting redeeming factors, such as its use of light, a successfully crafted horror atmosphere and an overall well implemented presentation.

As a whole, Bulb Boy is a gross yet endearing update to the classic 2D adventure games from studios like Lucasarts and Sierra Interactive. It feels right at home on the Switch, especially when played in handheld mode. While the grim setting and disgusting visuals can be off-putting for some, it's the enjoyable characters and inviting strangeness that make it a worthwhile experience. If you have a classic adventure game itch, this is one of those.
