BurgerTime Party!

When it gets on with the bun-lobbing antics of classic BurgerTime, this is a great reminder of an arcade gem. But too many co-op cooks spoil the broth, and the recipe is overstuffed with extras that detract from the core flavour. That said, any game that lets you leave a trail of murdered pickles as you fight up the online leaderboard can't be all bad. Just a tad overcooked, perhaps.

Burger Time Party! succeeds in providing Burger Time on the Nintendo Switch. Beyond that, there’s not a whole lot else going on to justify the 5-star price for the 2-star burgers it serves up.

In the end, BurgerTime Party! can be a fun experience, but doesn’t have a long lasting appeal. I only spent 3 to 4 hours playing. But thanks to it being on the Switch, the game does have the virtue of being a decent portable experience where you play five stages and then can be on your way. Unfortunately, I can’t give an opinion on the multi-player aspect, having played only single-player. Priced at $19.99, you will get your money’s worth just by content alone, especially if you’re a fan of more arcade-like games. If you are more uncertain, I reckon waiting for a price drop before taking a bite.

BurgerTime Party is a solid modern rendition of this classic game, and my mother who is a long time fan approves of it.

MEDIOCRE - BurgerTime Party is a mediocre introduction of the series to a new generation. The core gameplay remains the same, but everything else just hurts the experience. Lackluster level designs, content stretched to the point of tedium, undercooked multiplayer modes, and terribly unappealing aesthetics contribute to its downfall. As a budget title, this wouldn’t be so bad, but at the asking price of $20 you’re best off playing the original game.

If you can look past the ugly artwork, you’ll find it really is a good game with hours of fun!

There’s a lot to enjoy here for BurgerTime fans, and I have always been one of them. If you are already a fan, I think you will really enjoy the game. However, if you already know you aren’t a fan of the series, then please skip the game. The new ingredients (pun intended again) will not change your mind at all and may actually reinforce the elements you don’t like.

If you want nothing more than modernized BurgerTime, then you’ll be satisfied with this modern edition. If you were hoping for revolutionized BurgerTime, though, you unfortunately won’t find it here.

BurgerTime Party recreates the fun of the arcade classic, but adds new "toppings," like multiplayer and a stunning new art direction, to make this a winner.
