The scenario for Dawning Subaru, and The Owl lurking in the twilight. is written by Momono Zappa, who won the 67th Edogawa Ranpo Award for the novel Roukou Zanmu. Character designs, CGs, and original images are handled by U35, who drafted the character designs for the TV anime The Aquatope on White. An authentic world of mystery depicted by Momono Zappa with transparent characters illustrated by U35 come together in this new visual novel! Additionally, the theme song is sung by Kanako Itou, who is known for her work on the theme songs for Higurashi When They Cry: Kizuna and STEINS;GATE. With its mysterious vibe and fast pace, paired with Kanako Itou’s vocals, the song is a key constructor of the game’s atmosphere.

Story and worldbuilding

The story is set in winter, at Seibunka Private Academy in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. The protagonist, Subaru Sakaki, and his childhood friend, Honoka Takamura, are excited as the final Christmas party of their school life approaches. However, their joyful days are shattered by the sudden news that their classmate Miyabi Yashiro and homeroom teacher Asuka Yuri have been murdered. And their close friend Kazuha Shinozaki has been arrested as the murder suspect. Believing in their friend’s innocence, Subaru and Honoka begin their investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident, but behind the scenes, someone deeply connected to a “certain secret” of theirs is pulling the strings.
