Why play it

Delta Force is a 2024 Tactical, Shooter game rated 6.5/10 from 192.2k ratings, with a main story of about 10.3h, available on Android, iOS, PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S.

Delta Force is a free-to-play tactical first-person shooter developed by Team Jade and published by TiMi Studio Group. A reboot of the classic series originally created by NovaLogic, the game features large-scale multiplayer modes including a Warfare mode for massive PvP battles and Hazard Operations, an extraction-style mode. Players choose from a roster of operators with unique abilities fitting into Assault, Support, Engineer, or Recon archetypes. The game also includes a single-player and cooperative campaign inspired by the film Black Hawk Down, recreating Operation Gothic Serpent.

Story and worldbuilding

Set in 2035, the game takes place in Ahsarah, a fictional North African nation where an energy crisis led the government to partner with Haavk, a powerful technology corporation. When Haavk begins expanding its control beyond the original agreement, the nationalist Ahsarah Guard faction revolts. The Global Threat Initiative (GTI), a paramilitary peacekeeping force, deploys to restore order, creating a three-way conflict between all parties. Players take the role of GTI operatives working to uncover Haavk's true ambitions, which include a mind-control program called Relink and a satellite network capable of disabling global communications.

An entertaining one-stop-shop for competitive multiplayer action, but the recently released Black Hawk Down campaign is an unpleasant war simulation in all the wrong ways.

When teams coordinate, objectives shift dynamically, and firefights erupt across carefully tuned arenas, Delta Force feels like something greater than the sum of its influences. The challenge for the future is to refine this identity, not just echo others.

There aren't many free-to-play titles that have wanted me to keep playing and be my go-to game. Delta Force is far from perfect, but it gets the key ingredient right, and that is fun and engaging gameplay. As you'd expect with any game that has no entry cost, it is riddled with opportunities to spend cash. However, it is all cosmetic-based, so you have peace of mind that no one will have the upper hand on you unless they are cheating. I've poured in excess of 30 hours into Delta Force in the first week on consoles, and I would highly recommend anyone to try it. It'll be a game that I'll keep dipping into if they keep the content fresh and exciting, which I'm sure they will. It's hard to tell if it will be a gap filler for me until Battlefield 6 arrives, but I know this will always be here if I need to switch. Don't hesitate, get it downloaded!

Delta Force - Black Hawk Down had great potential, and it came out.... well - severely mediocre. The situation is saved by the fact that this is Early Access, so the campaign will certainly be patched and refined further.
