Everspace 2 is the looter-shooter for space jockeys and wannabe pilots, packed with cool ship classes and action-driven arcade dogfights to keep up the pace.

Shooting, looting and RPGing in space has rarely been this good.

A classic arcade space shooter with an action RPG twist, Everspace 2 could have dropped out of a wormhole to the early noughties.

Everspace 2 might seem like more of the same, especially thanks to its plodding prologue, but there's more going on here than you see at first glance. There's a stronger sense of place, better story, and more interesting cast that feel like they fulfill the original game's potential. Exploration is better than ever, and while combat hasn't changed too much, the careful balancing act of managing your resources makes every encounter feel fresh and exciting.

Everspace 2 along with the expansion Wrath of the Ancients provides many hours of quality gameplay and is an essential purchase for fans of space action.

Everspace 2 reinvents itself almost entirely compared to its predecessor, focusing on more action-oriented RPG gameplay and featuring intuitive controls, making it accessible even to those not particularly fond of space simulators. Aside from a few minor optimization issues and an environmental puzzle design that occasionally falls short, the game still stands out as one of the best offerings in its genre.

I started Everspace 2 deeply unsure about a space looter shooter. Tens of hours later I don't want to play anything else. Everspace 2 is a towering achievement of space-based thrills and spills. It absolutely deserves your attention.

Everspace 2 then is overall a competent space-combat based looter-shooter in the sheepskin of a space-combat sim. Come to it knowing what to expect and there’s a good few dozen hours of simple fun to be had, but I’m not convinced it has the systemic depth to truly rival either the looter-shooter or space-sim heavyweights on their own turf.

Everspace 2 is a solidly successful sequel, offering players more of what they loved from the first game while shifting away from the rogue-like trappings. The game provides a larger world with higher stakes, improved story, and more ship customization options.
