F1 Manager 2022 speeds to the front of the grid with a deep, compulsive, and largely authentic motorsports management sim.

Tense and involving, if just slightly lacking smarts and spectacle. A firm foundation to build a series on.

It’s been a long, long time since F1 fans have had a licensed management sim that lived up to the dramatic highs of the real thing. The recent explosion of interest paved the way for the perfect timing for a return to this style of F1 game. But even more impressive than its timing is its execution, which leaves extremely little to be desired. It’s been more than a two-decade wait — but it was more than worth it.

As it stands, “F1 Manager 22” can be an incredibly fun and absorbing game — just keep in mind that you’ll have to put in some real work to get the most out of it.

F1 Manager 2022 is a strong first entry in Frontier's new series, filling a niche that's been sorely lacking on PlayStation for years. Capturing the spirit of Formula 1 with its strong attention to detail, there's some thrilling races to be had and we're impressed by how well it handles race days with its 3D engine. As a management sim, it's a slow burner and we do wish you could create your own teams, but it still holds a distinct charm of its own. If you've got the patience for the long haul, F1 fans won't want to miss this.

For the first entry in a brand-new series, Frontier has done a great job with F1 Manager 2022. The 3D race engine is consistently engaging and visually stunning for a management game, the user interface is well-designed, and even the controls are easy enough to get to grips with on Xbox. There are definitely balancing issues that need to be ironed out at launch, but if Frontier can add some updates pretty sharpish, we'll happily bump this review up to at least an 8/10.

F1 Manager 2022 presents the sport's behind-the-scenes and the races engagingly and innovatively for fans. Finally, I could see how much effort and organizational skills are worth the results and how hard it is to stay on top. The Manager has its flaws, yet for a debut, it's a very entertaining title that fans of the F1 series and strategy games, in general, shouldn't miss. For it brings a fresh style of entertainment.

To that end, I love Motorsport Manager, but really I played it because it was the closest modern sim that had something akin to Formula One cars. F1 Manager 2022 drives a perfect line by clearly taking some inspiration both from that game as well as from the series' own (distant) past, but it feels like something fresh. Every element of it feels refined in a way that is clearly specific to the real-life sport, and it is both defined by and pays homage to reality. It's a game that has shockingly few true flaws, and while it is also very much geared toward a specific crowd, I had a great time elevating Haas to (just a little bit more) glory.

F1 Manager 2022 is a very successful debut from Frontier Developments, and if the studio plans to further develop this series in the future, it could become an unrivaled management game—perhaps even the best I’ve ever seen. Of course, it also depends on whether the Formula 1 championship appeals to you. F1 Manager 2022 can appeal to both types of players—F1 fanatics as well as absolute newcomers. However, the overall experience is marred by subpar visuals and occasional technical glitches. From us at Gaming Professors, F1 Manager 2022 earns a solid 7.5 out of 10.

It's been too long since the last officially licensed F1 management sim, we're talking almost two decades; Frontier Developments' F1 Manager 2022 brings players back to feeling part of an F1 team and does so in an incredibly clever and immersive way. It's not just about statistics, data and charts but thanks to the superb graphics engine, cars and tracks literally come to life offering an incredible gaming experience capturing the spirit of Formula 1. If you are a fan of motorsport and management games, you absolutely cannot miss F1 Manager 2022.
