Final Zone

It doesn’t hold a candle to Granada, but Final Zone is still a fun little romp that I’m happy got reissued, especially with far better sound emulation than Granada ended up with. It might not be the computer original, but that doesn’t mean this Genesis version is worth skipping!

Final Zone works like a playable museum piece: a direct, difficult and very old-school run ’n’ gun brought back with rewind, save states, turbo mode and carefully preserved extras. The action holds up, although repetition becomes noticeable very quickly.

While it may look like a classically-styled arcade title, in terms of play it’s simply a mess
