FixFox

Despite feeling that this puzzle-adventure's story needs a ruthless edit, FixFox's weird futuristic world is just such a lovely place to exist, fix stuff, and make friends in.

Fix Fox is a wonderfully unique Science Fiction world that makes a hero out of an unlikely character. The game has a charm with its cute characters, art style, and storyline.

FixFox is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it offers an exciting story and delivers its promise to tell this story in a way that does not lack the intensity it calls for. Still, on the other hand, there are certainly some issues that hinder the game from being more interesting than it is. It is pretty tedious and frustrating at times and fun and incredibly satisfying at some other times.

Although there were some moments in the game where I felt frustrated with how little explanation about objectives in the game was given. But there was nothing more satisfying than having soup at the end of the day and going to sleep using a bedroll. Overall Fix Fox is supposed to be a relaxing game targeted at all age groups but its lack of explanation of objectives can sometimes make the experience an unpleasant one.

Made by a single developer, an industry rookie, FixFox really brings a good amount of ideas to the table. The main mechanics are quite simple, designed to be relaxing and reassuring. The outline, however, stands out for brilliant ideas and insights, which contribute to the creation of an intriguing context. Not everything is perfect, some aspect for example are a bit generic (music, especially) and some other may appear unclear at first glance. Its slow and somewhat repetitive pace might also bore more action-oriented players.

If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, the road to a boring video game is lined with safe design choices, and that really is FixFox’s problem.

FixFox is a delightful title that manages to be a comfortable experience despite the at-times heavy themes. The self-fulfilling loop of repairing machines is the highlight, and it’s what you’ll be doing most, outside simple puzzles. Occasional unclear objectives, however, drag the experience down during specific moments. But once you get past FixFox’s quirks, it confidently takes you through a gentle, emotional ride.

FixFox is a wonderful, peaceful adventure game from a one-person Czech studio, and its low-budget production is in no way evident. On the contrary, the developer has handled this challenge exceptionally well, and the game offers sufficiently long, suspenseful, and entertaining gameplay completely free of violence. Since this is a Czech title, the lack of a Czech localization is a bit of a letdown, and a few minor flaws slightly lower what is already a very good rating.

FixFox is a top-down, story-based, point-and-click adventure. This cute little indie game was developed by Rendlike, published by Joystick Ventures, and is out now for PC and Mac. It is an extremely charming indie game with a great story. It’s a great game for all ages and with the ease of access throughout, everyone including your pets could sit down and play through the game for hours.

Whatever FixFox may lack in size of its budget compared to what we consider a mainstream open world title, it has ten times that in charm and heart.
