Foundation

We've waited over six years, but the wait has been well worth it: Foundation is one of those city builders you never want to put down. Polymorph Games' title has everything you'd expect from a city management sim, skillfully blending creative freedom with careful planning. It's visually stunning, enjoyable to play, and its interface manages to keep even the most advanced and complex moments clear. The only real downside is the occasional bug and a few crashes that persist despite the long development time.

Overall, Foundation is a game that takes a while to get the hang of. It is incredibly complex and requires a lot of thinking, but it manages to ease you into it in a neat way. That being said, it does leave you hanging afterward, leaving you on your own to figure out the exact specifications of most of the mechanics.

Foundation is one of the most lovingly designed city-building games currently available and offers much more scope for creativity than other construction games thanks to the numerous modular buildings.

As I mentioned up top, I’m not usually a huge fan of building sims. The majority of the genre is focused around warring your neighbors and feel a lot more like RTS games than sims sometimes. However, Foundation is a cozier version of the genre, and I love everything about it. It’s cute, it’s got a great tutorial, amazing atmosphere, colorful and beautiful graphics, good sound design, and a whole lot more. I can definitely recommend this to anyone, even if you’ve never played this kind of game before

Foundation is an absolute gem of a game. As long as you’re not expecting a strategy game like Age of Empires, you won’t be disappointed. Building, gathering, organizing—the game has all of this down to the finest detail, and it’s all accompanied by one of the most magnificent soundtracks. Unfortunately, it still has a few rough edges that, while minor in some places, ultimately become a downside given the game’s scope and possibilities.
