Frog Legs

Some of you may spend more time reading this short review than playing the game itself. That's actually its biggest problem. Paying for a 30-minute experience, even at an extremely low price, leaves a strange aftertaste. You're still not sure if it was worth it.

While the game is short, the variety of one casual session makes for one of the most enjoyable frog-based gaming experiences I have had thus far.

Firstly, let me just say that Frog Legs is silly, short, and fun. It doesn’t take itself seriously, is meant to be completed in one play session, and is less than $3. As such, this review won’t be too long-winded and instead will focus on my overall experience with the little serving of goodness that is Frog Legs. Frog Legs focuses on a set of frogs that start off inside of the classic “Frogger” game, trying to convince a cautious fellow frog that making it across the busy street ain’t so scary. Unfortunately, that peer pressure leads to an event and adventure that will change them all…in more than a few ways. Featuring gameplay that hops from arcade to horror to boomer shooter, Frog Legs will be sure to surprise and elicit some laughs for its 30-40 minute runtime.

Frog Legs is a brilliant, bizarre little horror-comedy romp proving you don’t need a big budget or a long run to make something memorable. With sharp humour, eerie transitions, and a narrative that hops through dimensions with gleeful abandon, this is indie horror at its most ribbeting. Sure, the motion blur might make you feel like you’re viewing the world through a cup of blended margaritas, and the lack of task tracking might leave you briefly bewildered, but those are minor frogs in an otherwise stellar pond. If you're a fan of old-school Doom, Resident Evil, Frogger, or nonsensical combinations of the three, you'll love Frog Legs. Throw in some top notch humor, and you've got yourself a recipe for unexpected fun.

Frog Legs is a solid, thoughtful game. I wish each of the games you so briskly go through offered so much more. This decidedly short game has some great ideas I wish were more fleshed out, simply because they are so fun to partake in. Frog Legs is fun, while it lasts.
