Despite the story shortcomings, there is a lot to like about Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune. The gameplay shines above the rest of its shortcomings, and the diverse upgrade paths for various characters through crafting, loot, and equippable skills really helps make the game feel fresh and exciting throughout a fairly lengthy adventure. Even a year or so after its release Frontier Hunter is worth checking out, despite the absolute deluge of other titles available in the genre.

Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune is a solid entry in the Metroidvania genre, but it falls short of being a standout title. It’s a game that will likely appeal to a niche audience—those who appreciate its particular blend of gameplay mechanics and visual style—but may not resonate as strongly with a broader audience. Whether you’re a Metroidvania veteran or new to the genre, Frontier Hunter is worth a look, but it’s important to go in with tempered expectations, particularly regarding its narrative and presentation.

Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune would be easy to appreciate as a unpolished but obviously heartfelt metroidvania experience, if it weren't for the poorly executed and far too frequent cutscenes.

Overall, if you’re a fan of anime-style games with Metroidvania gameplay mechanics, then this one is a no-brainer. It lacks the challenging combat of say Hollow Knight but it’s a fun romp with some stylish cut scenes and over-the-top characters that will keep you entertained throughout.

Ease of access is the focal point of Frontier Hunter: Ezra's Wheel of Fortune, making the experience as easy as possible to consume at the start. Once the game starts asking more of you, the issues with hit boxes and juggle damage blindside you after hours of not influencing the experience too much. That on top of a bland narrative and character design that looks like unedited AI-generated content makes the overall product easily avoidable.

Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune doesn't do anything particularly new, but fans of Metroidvanias will find it well worth their time.

Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune offers solid action with RPG elements in a beautiful and captivating metroidvania with a narrative that is expanded as we progress through the campaign. Although the game’s humor is a bit offensive at times, especially for female audiences, the plot is intriguing enough to keep us going until the end. Unfortunately, although the combat is the highlight of this adventure, the characters’ combos are difficult to execute, and the boss battles are drawn out enough to come close to boring. Beyond this, we have a basically linear exploration, which, more than anything, makes backtracking difficult with the few save and teleport points. On the other hand, the lack of boldness as a metroidvania makes Frontier Hunter a good choice for people who are not very experienced with the genre, offering plenty of content to keep them entertained for hours.

Some small level design slips, instability between air and ground movements, and the harsh interface of Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune do not eclipse this beautiful 2.5D sidescroller metroidvania. The title cares little about an almost forgettable story, but its gameplay shows a sum between speed and skill that is extremely satisfying and fun.

Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune is a conventional metroidvania but quite fun and entertaining. Without innovating excessively, it presents us with a combat system that is quite developed based on the three playable characters, whose full potential is not fully exploited. Artistically and audiovisually is where the IceSitruuna studio has been most irregular, but it is fair to keep in mind that we are talking about a four-person studio. Otherwise, Erza's adventure is highly recommended.
