Gori: Cuddly Carnage's hyper-violent, comic book spin on the character platformer is fun and easy to get to grips with. It's an entertaining ride, though the sheer volume of comedic banter will overwhelm as much as it entertains, and performance issues plague the experience throughout. Otherwise, it just about holds everything together and will no doubt appeal to some. Others may tire of the scattershot humour long before Gori has defeated the Adorable Army.

I had no idea what I was in for with Gori: Cuddly Carnage, and I certainly didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Its crassness is kind of a take-it-or-leave-it for me, but it fits a ridiculous world taken over by crazed toys that are in desperate need of murder by a sentient cat friend and his blade hoverboard. And that feels like a good way to look at most of Gori. It sets out do all sorts of things gameplay-wise and it does all of them pretty well to make a ridiculously graphic world and narrative pretty dang fun. Mind the tykes in the room when you’re playing this one.

Despite its flaws, Gori: Cuddly Carnage claws out a place in the hack and slash genre.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a third-person apocalyptic fighting game that, unlike many similar titles, has touched on toys. In this game, you have to fight against the rebel toys and restore peace to the earth. The creators have managed to portray this battle well; so if you love apocalyptic themes, especially toys, and have always loved to tear these entertainment tools to pieces, don't miss this opportunity. This game, with all its content, can entertain you for about 10 hours.

The violent mix of combat and platforming provided by Gori: Cuddly Carnage won't be for everyone, but it will be for more people than you'd expect. The gameplay is surprisingly engaging if you're willing to take on the unsettling visuals.

Also this game takes a pretty steep hit in the graphics department due to the Switch's lower power to handle Gori's fur. I stand by my hype for this game and love the fact that these games can still exist in this space. I pine for the days of the B game, and will support devs who continue to hold that torch, but I also am realistic in that there's nostalgia definitely clouding my lenses here.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage has turned out to be quite a surprise. Angry Demon Studio's work is totally over the top.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage feels like a game you’d find in a bargain bin during the 360/PS3 era and I mean that in the nicest way possible. You just don’t get games like this anymore—low-budget games with a gameplay first mentality that isn’t afraid to be out there and weird. Gori: Cuddly Carnage really reminds me of games like Lollipop Chainsaw, MadWorld and No More Heroes, just to name a few.
