Why play it

Hitman is a stealth game and the sixth mainline entry in the Hitman franchise, serving as the first installment of the World of Assassination trilogy. Players control the genetically engineered assassin Agent 47 from a third-person perspective as he carries out contract killings across large, open-ended sandbox levels set in locations around the globe including Paris, Italy, Morocco, Bangkok, Colorado, and Japan. Each level presents numerous approaches to eliminating targets, from disguises and environmental manipulation to staged accidents and direct confrontation. The game features a classless system where players unlock new tools, starting locations, and gear by completing challenges. Originally released episodically, the game was later delisted from standalone sale in 2023 when IO Interactive consolidated the trilogy under a single package titled Hitman: World of Assassination.

Story and worldbuilding

In 1999, an unnamed man is recruited into the International Contract Agency and demonstrates exceptional skill as an assassin. His handler, Diana Burnwood, helps him pass a rigged final evaluation, and the man, now known simply as "47," begins his career as a contract killer. Twenty years later, 47 carries out a series of high-profile assassinations that initially appear unrelated. Diana gradually discovers that an unknown figure called the "Shadow Client" has been covertly orchestrating these contracts to strike at Providence, a secretive organization with hidden influence over global affairs. The Shadow Client uses the ICA and 47 as unwitting instruments, concealing his own involvement while making the agency appear responsible for the attacks on Providence's operatives.

I would love to give this game a higher score, it is a great game that beautifully blends action and puzzle in an exciting way, but with the connection issues on what is basically a single player game, I can't.

Ultimately, Hitman: World of Assassination on PSVR2 is a highly immersive experience that takes the franchise to new heights. For longtime fans, the chance to step into the shoes of Agent 47 is a dream come true. While there are some imperfections, the overall experience manages to capture the essence of the game in innovative ways. If you’re willing to overcome a few small obstacles, Hitman: World of Assassination offers a fascinating window into the world of assassination. For fans of VR and stealth games, this is definitely a title worth checking out.

Despite its flaws, Hitman: Definitive Edition is a solid installment in the Hitman franchise and serves as a quality introduction to a reboot of a classic title. The Definitive Edition is a great way for players to pass the time until Hitman 2 launches.

Everything I ever wanted in a Hitman game is finally delivered. Great puzzle style, excellent action, stealth, espionage, and more. Only a few levels but so many different ways to tackle them.

Overall, this is the best version of Hitman you can get, as it is the complete version. This is especially nice, if you don't own any of the prior content.
