Holy Potatoes! We're in Space?!

The strategy and management elements are fantastic hooks that kept me glued to the screen for a stupid number of hours. There were some frustrating moments, particularly towards the end of the game, but it always managed to put a smile on my face. Just a lovely thing!.

A fantastic turn based RPG whose colorful characters and vegetable puns belie the deep RPG mechanics that are planted beneath the surface. If you love terrible puns and space exploration, be sure to turnip for this one. I loved it from my head tomatoes.

GOOD - Holy Potatoes! We’re in Space?! brings an easy to learn, but difficult to master turn-based strategy space game to the Nintendo Switch. It includes a quirky cast of vegetable-themed characters and plenty of puns to go with it. Gameplay can get repetitive as there isn’t a ton of depth, but this is mitigated by a slew of customization and upgrade options along with well-planned missions to create a solid experience.

Holy Potatoes! We're in Space?! sticks to its strengths, keeping true to their time management roots and nailing those parodies. That tutorial battle took me a little longer than I thought it would, but eventually I got the hang of it. There was some trial and error during the first mission as I had to switch my brain from thinking this was A Weapon Shop?!. But once I put on my Mal Reynolds suspenders, it was smooth sailing. Now I'm the best damn pilot in the galaxy, zipping all over the place blasting baddies out of the sky. I even have a furry sidekick. This could be your life, too, since Holy Potatoes! We're in Space?! is out now on the PlayStation 4.

The story centers around a certain Captain Cassie, on the run from the powerful Eclipse, and her crew as they search the galaxy in hopes of finding her grandfather Jiji… or something along those lines at least...

If you enjoy strategic battles and management games with a side of fries, this is a game for you.

If you're looking for a silly and relaxing time, this is your game. On the other hand, this is not the game for someone looking for great gameplay or a compelling story. The creativity in the world and its characters is where this game shines, but that shine will only reach so far. I wish it was a twice baked potato, yet sadly this is half-baked.

Holy Potatoes! We're in Space?! Is a very cute game that balances turn based strategy with lots of fun humour, pop culture references, and witty puns.  At times if you spend all your money and resources early on it can becoming frustrating and repetitive to build them back up (especially when you face the challenging 'boss' levels) but I definitely enjoyed the quirkiness of the storyline. It really is what made this game great fun!
