Why play it

In Hourglass you can create a time-clone of yourself to solve challenging puzzles. You will play as Aywa, a young adventurer who is traveling to Egypt to find her missing father - an archeologist, who never returned from his latest expedition. Pyramids are the tombs of the pharaohs. This is what most people believe. But more and more studies raise doubts about this thesis. Scientists found indications for ancient egypt being far more technologized than we can imagine. Hourglass is set in a scenario in which those assumptions are actually true.. Besides offering an ancient world to explore, Hourglass is mostly about solving various puzzles with a unique core-mechanic. Your ability allows you to record your actings for a certain amount of time. After that, time winds back to the beginning of the recording and a time-clone of yourself appears, repeating the actions.

If you've ever wondered what Portal would be like if it had an ancient Egyptian theme, wonder no more. It would probably look somewhat similar to Hourglass.

Starting out with strengths, to its credit Hourglass has a reasonably-good cloning mechanic to it where you'll be able to create a sort of ghost version of yourself to act within an environment, aiding you in actively then being able to complete it...

Hourglass is beautiful, artistically charming and has creative mechanics. That combined makes it a good game worth exploring. It is not such a long adventure, as it can take less than 3 or 4 hours to complete, depending on your puzzling skills. Even though its story is not something to highlight, it makes up for it with the rest of its design. It kept me hooked and entertained from the moment I started until the end. It is a great brain scratcher for anyone who loves puzzle games.
