Into the Dead 2

Into the Dead 2 is a pretty fun, well-made auto-run zombie survival game that arrives on Switch at a ludicrous price point that makes it very hard to justify picking up.

Into the Dead 2 is an endless runner originating in the mobile gaming segment and for that, it does a decent job with its apocalyptic atmosphere and fun gameplay mechanics. If only it had been properly adapted for the Nintendo Switch, however, then perhaps the game would be something more worthy of the console's catalogue, rather than a visually enhanced version of a short experience for mobile devices. As such, it's also impossible to justify its selling price when the original version is free.

Someone must be crazy to ask 35'/40$ for this mobile port on Nintendo Switch.

Into the Dead 2 is astoundingly expense for an auto-run game. There are two DLC packs, Ghostbusters and Night of the Living Dead, which look better than the base game however, these are available for an additional £4.49 each! The game’s core mechanic will most likely bore most people. It may appeal to the casual gamer and if you’re interested in the title then download the free to play mobile version as the Switch version is definitely not worth your time or money. This game needed to stay dead. I award the game a Thumb Culture Bronze Award.

The only complaint I actually have is that progression is locked behind challenges. I’d love to have seen a level up system in place that allowed you to get items that would help with your progression

If you’re using your switch as a mobile or handheld device, I can definitely see picking up Into the Dead 2 as a quick game while you’re on public transit, or perhaps between classes, but it definitely isn’t something I would pick up as a “console” title. Considering it’s also free to play, although at reduced content, on mobile, you may want to reconsider the platform that you’re looking to play this on.

Everyone else, however, is probably better off waiting until it’s discounted, otherwise they might feel as gone in the head as the shambling undead they’re killing time and time again.

This is one of those titles where you generate quite a bit of excitement and anticipation going in ("Zombie game! Bring it") and then manage to enjoy yourself a bit while grumbling a bit in disappointment nonetheless...

If you’re going to play this game, I’d recommend simply trying the free mobile version out and making your decision based on that. It’s much better suited for that platform, anyhow. But I cannot personally recommend it on Switch, especially at its current price. With a bland and predictable story, poor presentation, and gameplay that just feels like nothing.

Though it’s simple on the surface, it’s altogether plain old fun!
