Iron Meat is an excellent example of adrenaline-fueled run-and-gun action. It combines everything that made this genre popular in the ’80s and ’90s while also taking advantage of modern hardware capabilities and introducing its own—primarily visual—ideas. It’s a thrilling ride from start to finish; the only criticism is that it ends too soon.

The game looks great with its dark and brooding visuals. While each level has a menacing, dark-ish style, they are uniquely themed such as a forest, living train or even shooting the undead on the Moon. Enemy design, while a bit repetitive, is top-notch and creepy. Bosses are big and grotesque creations fun to challenge. The soundtrack is a high octave hard rock score to get your blood pumping as you shred The Meat’s armies. There’s nothing inherently wrong with Iron Meat aside from the fact that unlocked characters doesn’t offer any variety in terms of gameplay and the fact that given its old school inspiration, the gameplay is limited. When clearing the game, you can replay it and choose which level to play. Whether you’re looking for an old school inspired challenge or some quick fun, Iron Meat is an absolute must play. The gameplay is addictive, easy to pick up and play and some classic co-op action. While the gameplay is limited, the levels and challenge is very fun and addictive. Even after clearing the game, you’ll find yourself replaying levels to hone to skills or just as a stress relief. Iron Meat is a must buy. Don’t miss out.

Even with a short running time and a lack of special set-pieces, Iron Meat does justice to the genre, not to mention its own on-the-nose name.

"Very meaty and bloody Contra-like."

Iron Meat is a classic run-and-gun that doesn't want to innovate, but simply proposes the best that the genre has to offer, adding a grotesque and ultra-violent design carefully crafted. A great old school pastime that will keep you busy for several hours, depending on how many achievements and characters you intend to unlock and how good you intend to become at playing it.

Iron Meat is a game that draws inspiration from the great classics of the run-and-gun genre, offering a version as faithful as possible to its predecessors. However, it adds modern touches to make it more accessible to today's players. Fast-paced, brutal, and featuring well-crafted pixel art, this title is sure to please fans of the genre. The only major drawback is the lack of content to keep players engaged once the main campaign is over, as there are no extras included.

A very successful attempt to make an action game in the spirit of Contra series. A fun experience that ends too quickly, but leaves a great lasting impression.

Iron Meat will appeal to die-hard fans of this genre who are looking for a nostalgic yet fresh challenge. However, this is a game that doesn't hold back, and not everyone will embrace its ruthless nature.

Iron Meat is an amazing Contra-like that does some things better than the game it is impersonating. I cannot recommend this title enough for fans of that style. It has a rocking soundtrack, outstanding visuals, and perfect controls. Now if you will excuse me, I have some more meat to grind.
