Why play it

Irony Curtain: From Matryoshka with Love is a satirical point-and-click inspired by the classic adventure games. It smuggles you out of your comfort zone and throws into the middle of a Cold War spy intrigue – and there’s an even bigger game being played… Experience Matryoshka through Evan – a low-ranking, goofy journalist involuntarily pulled right into the middle of an espionage stand-off between two powers. Hop onto the wacky spy adventure, uncover secrets of the bizzare communist country (and the powerful capitalistic empire!), witness the story full of unpredictable twists and turns and discover the true agenda of the mysterious Supreme Leader!

Most of the comedy is heavy-handed, the satirical aspect is very hit and miss, and the puzzle-solving can often feel like an array of chores. Lower your expectations upon entering - as if paying a visit to Matryoshka itself.

Irony Curtain is one of the best point & click adventure games available on the market. It's punny, funny and perfectly made. Irony Curtain features abstract soviet era inspired puzzles and full voiceover.

This point and click adventure features gorgeous looking visuals and a plot so overly satirical and absurd that it's impossible not to grow fond of it. Its performance regarding player inputs falls below its quota, however, as the interaction with objects doesn't always work as expected on the Nintendo Switch but for every revolutionary or just mildly subversive player who enjoys point and click adventures, Irony Curtain will provide a welcome dose of proletarian-led entertainment.

While clearly a throwback, they put enough of their own spin on the various formulas they leveraged to make something that feels familiar but still unique. For fans of point-and-click games, Irony Curtain is a sure thing. For people inexperienced with the genre it's a friendly starting point.

A surprise that goes directly to my top of the year.

Overall, it's another point in click game, with unique puzzles. It lacks anything too special, though, making it hard to recommend for those non-enthusiastic about the genre. If you are a puzzle game fan, and can't seem to find another alternative, this one is definitely worth a look. That being said, if you aren't a puzzle game fan, or already have your fill of puzzling action, this game is not for you.

While not doing much that point and click games have not done before, Irony Curtain does what it does very well. Its very funny, extremely pretty and tells a good story. You cannot ask for much more than that really.

It’s a fun, satirical little romp that has enough going on to keep veterans going, and hopefully invest newcomers in something different. There’s some neat little trophies that require slightly divergent means, but that just adds to the length and fun. They’re optional, but it adds to the humour and tone somewhat.

While Irony Curtain doesn't add anything particularly new to the point-and-click genre, satirical humour, likeable characters and fun gameplay make this a puzzle game definitely worth your time.
