Monster Jam: Crush It!

Whether you're a monster truck nut or not, you should avoid Monster Jam: Crush It! at all costs. It lacks a lot of polish, has a lackluster presentation, poor controls and no semblance of progression that can in any way be construed as satisfying. It feels like a slapdash attempt at riding the wave of Switch goodwill, but doesn't join the growing list of games on the system that are worth playing.

Monster Jam: Crush It! promised players the chance to take control and experience Monster Jam like they have never seen, but it fails to ever entertain. There will be those that may blindly enjoy playing as their favourite Monster Jam trucks, but it doesn’t hide how pitiful this game really is – an effort that would look more at home on mobile rather than seeing release on Nintendo Switch and other consoles before it. At least there’s a button dedicated to pinging fireworks in every direction.

While on paper the license mixed with the various modes sounds like a lot of fun, the execution of not just the graphics but the overall gameplay makes it feel more like a game from a previous generation and I'm not only talking about the previous one. It's really hard not to believe that this has been slapped together and is being sent out to market to simply ride on the assumption that Monster Truck fans, and more likely their parents, will buy it on sight. That's a shame and especially when you throw the $40 asking price onto the package Crush It is a disappointment.

Monster Jam: Crush It! is a disappointment that takes many inspirations from great games yet doesn't quite nail any of them, resulting in an unsatisfying experience with monstrous control.

Overall Monster Jam: Crush It is a hot mess of a game that is coming to eShop in a state that’s simply baffling. While on paper the license mixed with the various modes sounds like a lot of fun the execution of not just the graphics but the overall gameplay makes it feel more like a game from a previous generation… and I’m not only talking about the previous one. The biggest disappointment in Monster Jam: Crush It is the lack of multiplayer.

Monster Jam: Crush It! has little to no redeeming value. It plays poorly, it doesn’t look great, and it is simply not as enjoyable as the name suggests. Decades later I am still waiting on that great monster truck game. Sadly, this is not it.

Monster Jam: Crush It! is crushingly disappointing, taking the recipe for what should have been a simple yet enjoyable game and then failing to add even the most basic of ingredients.

I wasn’t a fan of monster trucks before playing Monster Jam: Crush It!, and I am most definitely not any closer to becoming one after playing it. While this might be a decent title for Monster Jam‘s younger fans, it ultimately didn’t add up to much. Between its bad controls, wonky physics, and general lack of actual gameplay, the only thing that Monster Jam: Crush It! will actually be crushing is any hopefulness that you may have had about this game being fun before playing it.

It just never feels like a complete package in anyway instead opting to add a series of random mini games together.
