When you first look at Morkull Ragast’s Rage, it looks like an exciting Metroidvania. Once you step into the game, you can see its flaws in the combat system, variety of enemies, skill system, and lack of narrative. The game had potential, but it loses you at a point. I found myself being more frustrated at the combat system than anything.

Though it tries earnestly to compensate with wall-breaking humor, Rage is a bit of a dull mess

It feels unfair to be so punishing to a studio's debut game. Clearly, there is some affection for the genres Morkull Ragast's Rage is playing within here, and the hand-drawn art style is admirable and something I wish more games sought to emulate. But the sheer lack of polish and mediocrity of its game systems, metafictional elements and overall presentation left me raging at the Ragast, and not in the way I suspect the developers intended.

Morkull Ragast’s Rage doesn’t bring a ton of new ideas to the table, but what it offers is a solid, well-crafted platforming adventure with a lot of personality. Morkull himself is a fantastic lead, carrying the game with his quirky humour and fourth-wall-breaking antics. The gameplay is tight and enjoyable, though combat can be hit-or-miss, and navigation issues may test your patience. The difficulty makes it best suited for experienced players, as the punishing soul-loss system and challenging encounters may frustrate more casual players. But if you’re up for a tough but rewarding platforming experience, Morkull Ragast’s Rage delivers a fun, chaotic ride through a beautifully animated, villainous adventure.

My real problem with Morkull Ragast's Rage isn't with it's storytelling, it's with just about everything else.

2D hand-drawn Metroidvania that does not live up to its potential

This is not to say that Morkull Ragast's Rage is a bad game, because it certainly has qualities. The problem is that, between bugs and lack of originality, it really fails to stand out in the 2D action platformer scene. If you are a die-hard fan of the genre and have exhausted all the better alternatives, you might still give it a chance, but don't expect a title that lives up to its benchmarks. I hope the developers can fix the technical problems with some updates, because beneath the flaws is a game that with a little more care has all the potential to be much more convincing.

Although the premise is interesting, the narrative didn't shine as it could have, and I thought the humor and characters ended up being too forced.

In summary, Morkull Ragast's Rage is an indie title that combines challenging combat, lighthearted humor and a neat visuals. Although it has its weaknesses, such as the lack of direction in the story and repetitive fights, the game offers a unique and fun experience for Metroidvania lovers.

Overall, Morkull Ragast’s Rage is a competent game, but it has some obvious problems, such as the lack of an engaging narrative and the need for more polish in combat and enemy variety. The game gives the impression that the developers used all their ideas in the introduction and left much to be desired in the rest of the experience. Breaking the fourth wall with the main character is a great idea, but it is underused, appearing very few times throughout the game. Morkull Ragast’s Rage presents itself as a unique game, standing out for its charismatic protagonist, but in the end, it delivers a generic Metroidvania, without flavor and ambition.
