Why play it

A creature-collection RPG where you play as a powerful necromancer. Summon hordes of undead and upgrade your necromancy spells to defeat your enemies. Capture their souls to enlist them in your team, and sign pacts with demons to gain their tremendous powers.

Story and worldbuilding

Necro Story is a light-hearted RPG that puts you in the shoes of Jaimus the Necromancer. Guided by the mischievous ghost Vivi, you'll cast powerful spells, raise skeleton armies, sign dark pacts with demons, and capture souls in this hex-citing journey to the underworld. With a blend of humorous writing and strategic auto-battler mechanics, it's a game that's dying to be played.

The battle system and second-half humor are definite highlights and made me glad that I gave the game a try. However, a pretty bland first half, a bevy of little bugs, and a conclusion that is more likely than not going to end badly hold the game back from being a whole-hearted recommendation.

An interesting mix of active and turn-based combat help it it feel distinct, but it can seem a bit one note

I really enjoyed the story, and the dialogue between your character and the mage is unmatched and will forever be my new favorite frenemies relationship, but I found myself trying to speed through battles so I could hear more of the storyline. Battling essentially turned into more of a grind than a fun way to collect monsters, which led me to eventually avoid the unnecessary battles all together.

Necro Story delivers an entertaining and funny necromancer story, but it has some flaws holding it back from greatness.

When I first began playing Necro Story, I really didn’t know what to expect. I have played a few turn-based fighting games, and while Necro Story isn’t exactly turn-based, it follows much of the same formula. The first thing that really grabbed my attention was the humour and jokes at the beginning; this made me want to know more about each character, and I was not disappointed.

Overall Necro Story is a truly fun and funny game. The comedic timing alone makes this a game I’m going to be recommending. It took me just under 8 hours to roll credits and I’m already planning my next playthrough. Necro Story is a game that doesn’t take itself to serious, it won’t waste your time and will have you chuckling left and right. Filled with RPG elements, fun battles, team management and strategy are all rolled into this game.

Necro Story is a twisted RPG that balances dark magic with humour and heart. Its witty dialogue and strategic combat combine to create an experience that sets it apart from other creature-collection RPGs. For players looking for a creature-collection RPG that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Necro Story is a good choice. Its blend of strategy, humour, and quirky charm makes it a unique addition to the genre.
