Why play it

Nova Drift distills the mechanical depth of an action RPG into classic arcade space combat. Control an endlessly evolving bio-mechanical ship, face legions of strange and deadly foes, and ride the wake of a dying star across the void.

Story and worldbuilding

Nova Drift is a "Roguelite" space shooter that melds a classic arcade experience with modern action-RPG elements. Your ship rapidly evolves as you defeat enemies, allowing you to shape its abilities and weaponry to your desires in a matter of minutes. Unlike many ARPGs which can absorb hundreds of hours of time, Nova Drift allows you to take a ship build from inception to execution in a single game session. Features Create a unique build every run. Games are quick, allowing for rapid experimentation, iteration, and advancement. Cunning and creativity are rewarded as you chain upgrade modules for powerful synergies. Access over 120 modular upgrades as you progress and expand your arsenal. Build to play how you want. Snipe, command a drone army, discharge your shields, charge up, burn enemies with your thrusters, or smash right through them... there's a way to make it work. Unlock various challenge modes, providing greater risk and rewards. The stakes are high, as death is permanent! Every game is randomly generated, keeping the fight intense and unpredictable. Fight through the campaign or play endlessly... Nova Drift is a living game. Frequent updates will continue to expand the depth and content of the game world. Planned updates soon after Early Access launch: Body Gear: Viper | Weapon Gear: Dart | Weapon Gear: Thermal Lance | Super Mod: Barrage Weapon Mutations: each weapon type will have 1-2 variations New Challenge Mode: Wild Metamorphosis - extremely rare mods that have a variety of powerful and/or bizarre effects Translation into French, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese & more...

NOVA DRIFT is highly recommended to fans of twinstick shooters, even if it may not seem like their cup of tea. And for those of you with a Steam Deck – oooooh boy is this a perfect fit. It’s slick, it’s stylish, it’s polished. It’s cheap too. Go get it.

Nova Drift is a love letter to classic space shooters, modernized with rogue-lite depth and near-infinite build variety. Its tight controls, diverse enemies, robust Gear and Mod systems, and dynamic Challenge Modes—especially the game-changing Wild Metamorphosis—keep you hooked. Although the classic feel can sometimes be its downfall in some instances, with no global leaderboard curbing long-term engagement. It’s a niche game, even for a rogue-lite, but a must-play for old school fans or even gamers looking for a rogue-lite that doesn't have many comparisons. It isn't visually or sonically flashy, and it can get a bit repetitive at times, but it's a great game that knows what it wants to be and delivers a fair yet challenging experience that rewards skill and strategic build crafting.

A great, simple, easy-to-play, intuitive, and fun game. That’s Nova Drift, which offers excellent graphics, a fantastic soundtrack, and incredibly simple controls. It’s like playing Asteroids, but with a more modern look, and the game has taken a whole bunch of muscle boosters. The only real problem is that it’s still in early access, because even after all these years, the game still doesn’t have a full release.
