Why play it

One True Hero is an epic 3D platforming adventure featuring a young hero who can barely save himself! Explore ancient ruins, defeat an army of evil minions and unravel the mystery of the sinking town!

Story and worldbuilding

An evil tyrant... A magic sword... A young farmer turned Hero... It's a tale we've heard thousands of times before and in the kingdom of Genericia things like that happen every other week, which makes it hard for a young farmer to be taken seriously when he tries to save a town that's mysteriously sinking into the ground, even if he's the only one capable of saving them!

Everything in One True Hero has been done before -- and much, much better -- and you'd be wise to play one of the games it's from borrowing instead.

One True Hero offers up at first glance a simplistic and basic action adventure, but as you scratch beneath the surface you find a detailed and challenging 3D platformer full of interesting interactions, puzzles, and challenges.

The game features intuitive gameplay mechanics and a charming self-deprecating humour that mocks the genre's most common clichés. That does not suffice, however, as One True Hero is unfortunately affected by a series of flaws and execution problems with regards to its graphics and overall experience, as well as by an uninspired level design. Perhaps a future update can correct its most pressing issues but as it is, One True Hero is a game with good ideas tarnished by a frustrating execution.

When One True Hero works, I generally enjoy it, but there are just so many issues to push through. Its writing is genuinely endearing, its characters are lively and animated, and even as you moon jump high above the playable areas, it maintains solid frame rate and resolution. With some aggressive patches there may be something here, but it isn't quite there yet.
