Otherskin delivers strong world design, striking visuals, and fun morphing mechanics that feel pulled from the golden age of adventure gaming. But severe optimization problems, repetitive combat, and unpolished gameplay prevent it from reaching its full potential. If patched, it could become a cult favourite for now, it’s a beautiful but broken journey.

Otherskin is the kind of game that thrives on ambition. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it delivers a creative, atmospheric, and mechanically interesting journey through a hostile alien world. Its morph system adds genuine novelty, its biomes brim with variety, and its narrative hook — a doomed soldier collecting knowledge for the greater good — gives it emotional weight. Performance issues, clunky combat, and reset-heavy stage design hold it back from greatness. But if you’re willing to tolerate some rough edges, there’s a rewarding experience beneath the corruption. – Flare

Otherskin tries to deliver an experience inspired by modern shooters with a classic touch, but the end result feels closer to a PS2-era game — only with worse visuals. Its single enjoyable system isn’t enough to save a technically and artistically crumbling experience. And honestly, even if it were free, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Otherskin does have some interesting game mechanics, the core idea is indeed pretty cool. For me it was just a bit too rough around the edges and lacking polish to keep me interested. If you are after a game with a slightly different approach that adds some new ways to play and complete levels (light puzzle solving)… it might be worth your time. I would probably recommend at least waiting for a sale though.

All in all, Otherskin is a game that is more interesting than the sum of its parts. Everything it has to offer, from its setting to its combat and DNA-absorbing gimmick, is… decent. But add all of these elements up, and you get a pretty enjoyable action adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome nor tries to bite more than it can chew. A handful of annoying framerate-related issues and the occasional bug frustrated me, but that’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a few fixes and optimization patch.

Otherskin got under my skin, in the best possible way. It’s the kind of surprise that makes gaming feel exciting again, reminding you that not every worthwhile adventure needs a triple-A budget or a massive marketing push. With creative morph abilities, a captivating alien world, and a story that balances bleakness with hope, this is a sci-fi action-adventure well worth checking out. Even if you’re unsure, I’d recommend grabbing the free demo. Chances are, like me, you’ll hopefully come away pleasantly surprised.
