Why play it

A bone-chilling body-horror game with escape room gameplay. Bad decisions have brought Matthew to this terrifying motel. Now it’s up to you to decide how to escape – will you make it out alive? Combining escape room gameplay and action, Oxide Room 104 is a bone-chilling single-player body-horror game set inside an old motel. Abducted, at the mercy of a ruthless scientist, and stalked by a horrible creature, you must try to escape using common sense, just as you would in real life. Can you get out of Oxide?

Story and worldbuilding

It all starts when you wake up in the bathtub of a motel room, naked, wounded, and unsure what has happened. You remember that the deal had gone wrong, but now the only thing that matters is trying to escape from that horrifying place no matter what. From this moment on, everything you do will lead you to one of the endings. And we warn you that, out of all the ways it could end, there’s only one good way out… There are many options and ways to solve situations, as well as different paths. Some actions will lead you to states that will alter your perception of the environment and even to an abrupt outcome. Remember that a bad decision can be the difference between life and death.

Oxide Room 104 is a title that, despite its flaws, delivers an engaging horror experience for genre enthusiasts—those who can never get enough of devouring every entry in the category. While there is certainly room for improvement, the game is rich with promising ideas that establish a strong foundation for a bright future for the WildSphere team. Thus, as we await the sequel, Oxide Room 208, originally scheduled for June 2025, my verdict aligns with the critical consensus, awarding the game a well-deserved and satisfying passing grade.

Great ideas, sadly stifled by mediocre execution. Oxide Room 104 came off as a little confusing at times, lacking in direction. There are some really good ideas here, but it feels and plays like a mid-life PS3 game. It’s not a terrible game by any means and is good for a few hours. I would have appreciated this more if it played a little less cumbersome and if it looked a lot gorier than it was. Oxide Room 104 gets the Thumb Culture Bronze Award.

An acceptable attempt by indie developers based on the unique ideas of cult horror games, but it gradually falls into a stereotype and reveals its shortcomings.

Oxide Room 104 is an interesting and satisfying approach to the genre. If you like the genre and want to try something different that will keep you engrossed for a couple of evenings, don't hesitate.

Aside from a few strange or seemingly missing reactions from Matt, there are interesting puzzles, a creepy antagonist, and several nightmarish creatures to kill or avoid throughout the game.

If you're looking for a neat indie horror game to play over the weekend, Oxide Room 104 delivers a satisfying experience. It's not a long game—you can beat it in about two hours—but with four endings and multiple remixes of the hotel there's plenty of replayability. I especially enjoyed the escape room puzzles and thought the majority of them offered a good challenge.

Oxide Room 104 is a good little horror game. The atmosphere put forward is perfectly successful and the puzzles are very logical. They will be particularly appreciated by fans of escape games who will see several similarities. There are some problems with texture reflections, but they do not spoil our experience. Oxide focuses primarily on puzzles and not fights. Despite the fact that there's isn't a wide range of diversity, the design of the monsters is very well thought out. If you want a game that's not too long and like horror and puzzles, this game is for you.

‎Oxide: Room 104 can tire many in the rough, the animations are basic, the combats are complicated. In addition, it can be frustrating in many ways, because of the number of deaths you will have, or how demanding you are in terms of the order you must follow to finish it. However, for fans of the horror genre, Oxide: Room 104 is an easy recommendation as long as you don't approach the game with higher-budget games in mind. What this title has to offer you is an original, fun, and well-planned experience in terms of gameplay and level and puzzle design. ‎
