Pic-a-Pix Deluxe

Basic in both presentation and premise, Pic-A-Pix Deluxe serves up a dish of picross puzzling that will test your brain capacity but does little to innovate on a well-worn conundrum recipe. Still, with some Switch-specific features - including four-player multiplayer support - and plenty of nonograms to its name, Lightwood Games' pixel puzzler is right at home on Nintendo's new handheld home.

Amazing Picross-style game that any fan of the genre must check out.

This really is DLC, not an improved game by any means.

Pic-a-Pix Deluxe was a fun nonogram puzzle game for fans of the genre, looking for more after finishing Picross S (like myself). The puzzles are solid with some nice variation to the formula with the use of colour but it is brought down by the basic presentation found throughout the game. Crashing issues were a shame that I never really expected and actually disappointed me for making their way into the game. If you’re looking for more puzzles, you don’t have many other options but if you’re a newcomer, I would advise checking out the much more polished Picross S.

Overall though, Pic-a-Pix Deluxe is a grand time. The puzzles are incredibly fair and it helps that the unique twists are actually really clever. The UI can sometimes be clumsy, but those problems disappear with familiarity. The sharp and crafty puzzles are appealing and worth the hurdle of the interface. It is really the biggest compliment I can give.

Pic-a-Pix Deluxe is another Picross-style game for Switch that plays exactly as you might expect. Unfortunately, it also lacks the same level of polish as other attempts like Picross S. If you’re hungry for more pixel shading puzzles though, Pic-a-Pix Deluxe delivers a reliable if somewhat clumsy option.

What it will all boil down to with Pic-a-Pix Deluxe is whether you’re a big fan of this style of puzzle game or not. If you’ve consistently enjoyed the Picross series, or games like it, there’s seemingly nothing here to hold you back. If nothing else the variety of having both traditional black and white puzzles mixed with multi-color puzzles really changes up the challenge and makes for some great variety. If you love a good puzzle game the planned continued support for the this on top of the already-substantial base of 300 puzzles to start should make it a good investment.

Pic-a-Pix Deluxe is a fun puzzle game in the vein of Picross. It adds a dash of color, which creates a new layer of strategy. A slightly confusing UI doesn’t get in the way of some seriously enjoyable and challenging puzzle solving.
