Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Mega Dimension

Mega Dimension adds more to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but doesn't necessarily make the game much better.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension is an expansion that doesn’t change much in what is already a fairly average gameplay experience. The new Pokédex can provide plenty of fun, but trying to catch every Pokémon is a real nightmare.

The DLC fulfills the role of expanding the universe of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, deepening the mystery surrounding the hyperdimensions of Lumiose, adding new missions, charismatic characters like Ansha and Hoopa, as well as a generous number of Pokémon to capture.

Megadimension turns into an experiment that's hard to recommend, especially when compared to what the first chapter of the Legends sub-series managed to achieve

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension serves as a solid expansion to the main game’s content, bringing challenging new endgame content and finally allowing players to break the level 100 barrier. Despite the interesting story premise and the fun interactions between characters, the progression system makes the journey somewhat tiring, which may disappoint players who are not strongly attached to the battle mechanics.

Mega Dimension is nothing more than a small expansion of what can be found in the main adventure. If you, like me, thoroughly enjoyed your experience with Legends Z-A, you'll love being able to return to Lumiose and discover new mysteries. However, those expecting major changes and other new features will be disappointed to learn that the DLC doesn't introduce anything new that's particularly impactful.

Hoopa opens portals to an alternate Lumiose with real challenge and sought-after creatures, although the donut-cooking mechanic turns the journey into needless frustration far too often.

If you're looking to discover new Mega Evolution forms and catch brand-new Pokémon, while engaging in even more intense battles with some cool new attack patterns, then this DLC is for you. However, if you were hoping for a breath of fresh air and a completely new gameplay experience compared to the base game, you can look elsewhere. There's no new region to explore, and the city is simply a reflection of Lumiose City, which we've already explored extensively. And a story arc focused on the Pokémon saga that places even less emphasis on exploration isn't exactly the brightest idea.

Mega Dimension is an expansion designed for those who truly became involved with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and want to continue exploring its world after the main campaign. It delivers new challenges, powerful Pokémon, and exciting Mega Evolutions, but without reinventing the experience or significantly expanding the map. It works very well as a premium post-game, although the price and recycling of ideas may deter some players. Still, for fans of the Legends concept, it’s a natural and fun extension of the journey.

If you enjoyed the base game like I did, the best bits of Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still present in Mega Dimension. The combat is still engaging, the characters you live and work with are still endearing, and the new Pokédex is fun to complete. This DLC, much like Z–A itself, feels like it will be a Marmite one.
