Why play it

In Railway Empire 2, grow your company into the largest railway company of the continent and outsmart your competitors as you connect cities and companies with an ever-expanding network of rail lines, bridges, and tunnels. Railway Empire 2 features bigger, more detailed and lively maps than ever before. The whole of the US and continental Europe are covered in two huge, sprawling maps, whilst more detailed maps put the focus on specific regions of each continent. Improved track construction helps you focus on the important decisions as you drive the economy and help the growth of the cities. Signals are placed automatically, bridges can hold up to 4 tracks and the expandable train stations can now have up to 8 tracks.

Other game modes feel slightly less frenetic than the campaign and scenario modes, and are definitely the modes to try if you really want to take your time and not feel rushed. There's definitely a lot of opportunity to play the game exactly how you want to, and find the mode that works for you if you feel the competitive options are a bit too stressful.

There’s really no way to say it aside from this train sim is absolutely not ready for prime time on Switch…

As a casual player, Railway Empire 2 can get incredibly overwhelming quickly with the number of different things to pay attention to, such as: resources, connecting lines, what the competition is doing, and budget. This is a strange contrast to the slow-moving nature of the game and the peaceful feeling that the theme and graphics provide. For anyone who is a fan of train simulators or management games, however, Railway Empire 2 is an enjoyable experience that can provide countless hours of entertainment.

undefined.Overall, unless an update comes out to fix the glitches, either go buy the game on another platform or just go back to playing the original Railway Empire on Switch. With graphics the way they are, it probably is not worth the frustration of trying to get it to work. It is a shame as I see that they put work into improving the track laying system, but it just doesn't look like they put work into the Switch port.

Railway Empire 2 is a fun strategy simulator, even if it is a little difficult for someone just starting the genre to get into the game. While the tutorial is highly detailed, it is still lacking in a few explanations that would help a novice player out. It is a game that keeps you coming back with five different campaign levels as well as many different scenarios to explore.

Railway Empire 2 adds a lot of nice features and quality of life over the first title. Diehard fans of train simulators will get a kick out of the game and shouldn’t hesitate about considering a purchase. Still, for those new to the genre, it can be a bit overwhelming to grasp all of the logistics and years of planning to create a multinational business.

An ambitious train management sim that looses steam in some areas.

Railway Empire 2 may not be a perfect fit for console play but I still loved my time with it and I definitely hope that it gets updated to help make it more accessible and streamlined. Although it can be a great deal of track-laying fun, I currently prefer the first game.

a great game for fans of simulators and builders. It tries to find the middle ground between being accessible and challenging, with the chance of losing the more advanced players in the process. The developers can cherish what they’ve created. But could expand upon the ideas some more for the next iteration. As I’m sure plenty of players would love to go deeper into the world of building a railway empire.
