Why play it

Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series' signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined "survival horror" some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level. The Gold Edition contains the full game plus DLC: the Banned Footage Vol. 1 and 2, and the End of Zoe epilogue episode.

Resident Evil 7 was the revitalisation the franchise needed, with everything suggesting that it may still be one of the best survival horror games in the series thanks to its first-person perspective that brings a sense of dread unlike anything felt before. Played in Switch 2’s handheld format, it is a whole other kind of nightmare that becomes the definitive horror pick for the system.

I’ll be completely transparent with you, dear reader: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is my favourite Resident Evil title post original Resident Evil 3. To have the complete package, playable in handheld and looking and handling the way that it does, is like a fever dream for me. While I wish Capcom had addressed some minor issues with the game in terms of skippable cutscenes and the like, and maybe offered a cheeky little bonus like the Mercenary mode from a few of the other games, the fact this port gives the full experience with nothing removed in a form I can just pick up and play is already far too enticing an offer for me to do anything other than recommend this game to everyone who will listen. As a game and a port, this version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition is basically perfect as is. It’s the survival horror that I had been missing since the series took a more action approach, and this port is a solid reminder that 7 still remains undefeated within the franchise as the perfect modern horror.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition remains one of the most influential chapters in modern horror, returning the series to its roots with an intense, oppressive, and survival-focused experience. Its native release on Nintendo Switch 2 allows players to enjoy the entire adventure with great stability and all the included bonus content, making this edition one of the most complete ways to play the game.

"Excellent Performance on Nintendo Switch 2" Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a solid and smooth survival horror experience on the console, with a first-person perspective that heightens the sense of danger at every moment. The gripping story and clever level design provide a tense and discovery-filled experience, while resource management and tactical combat add significant depth to the game. Despite some technical compromises in graphics and color, the version remains a complete experience, especially with the Gold Edition content.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard makes a triumphant native debut on Switch 2, liberating the title from its previous "cloud prison" with a port that rivals current-gen hardware. By leveraging the RE Engine’s impressive scalability and DLSS upscaling, Capcom delivers a rock-solid 60 FPS experience that mirrors the PS5’s visual fidelity—complete with all Gold Edition DLC. It remains the series' high-water mark for pure atmosphere, proving that the Baker family's brand of Southern Gothic horror is just as terrifying on a handheld as it was a decade ago.

Overall, Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition is a fantastic return to form for the series. Sure, it's a few years old now. But if you want the true Resident Evil experience ahead of playing Resident Evil 9 this is a great entry that's well worth your time. Just keep the lights on if you're playing at night. What was that sound…?

Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition doesn't provide a drastic change to the phenomenal experience of the base game, but the additional content is rewarding enough to warrant another visit to the dreaded Baker mansion.
