Robots at Midnight is a bold project. It aims to be a more accessible soulslike for younger audiences, and that alone is a welcome proposition. However, the execution does not match the ambition. Technical polish is lacking, frustration lingers in crucial details, and the narrative cannot carry the weight of the journey. Even so, the charm of the art style, the MITT system, and the Nightfall mechanic justify a curious look for those seeking a gentle entry point into the genre. The game does not become memorable, yet it plants a seed that could blossom in future projects.

Robots at Midnight brings little to the genre that is new. It is decent enough but lacks the spark to elevate it.

Robots at Midnight by Finish Line Games delivers a passable experience, hitting its key points but in a simplistic, overly formulaic way. While the project avoids major flaws, its execution feels bland and uninspired—especially puzzling given the crowded release window. It's a decent entry-level soulslike for newcomers with modest expectations, but unlikely to impress seasoned players.

Robots at Midnight is a short and rather basic Soulslike with its impressive character and enemy designs being the stars of the show. 🤖

Robots at Midnight is fun. It nails its retro-futuristic aesthetic, its combat feels good in motion, and the story itself is worth playing the game for. Zo is a solid protagonist, and the MITT gauntlet is a clever tool that helps both exploration and combat.

The combat and bosses are undeniably fun, but I kept wishing the mechanics had a little more depth, and the world had more detail. At around $20, the balance between content and price might be, unfortunately, up for debate for many gamers.

Robots at Midnight is comfort food. It's not going to blow your mind or redefine what games can be, but sometimes you don't want that. Sometimes you just want to punch robots in a colorful world while searching for your dad. But combat, while fun, never evolves much beyond what you learn in the first hour.

Robots at Midnight is a lighthearted third-person action-adventure RPG with a simplistic but beautiful art style, a story that's older than I am but still enjoyable, and exploration and combat that deliver and keep things entertaining.

Robots at Midnight is a solid enough romp for the action RPG space. The robot infested world of Yob is a curious and colourful place infused with retro nostalgic futurism, dusty droids and bright purple stormy skies. A lot of flowers should be given to Finish Line Games for making a palatable Soulslike that can be played by all, even offering some engaging play in the supercharged MITT abilities that have you soaring around environments or sucker punching bots. Thanks to other elements, such as a lot of stock standard combat pacing and flawed exploration, Robots at Midnight doesn't necessarily do a lot to significantly distinguish itself in the hugely populated genre crowd, but it is a different flavoured experience for the space if you're looking for yet another to eat up. It's not quite a home run, but it's a damn solid swing and crowd pleaser nevertheless.
