It's really not easy to recommend a roguelite with classic gameplay at this precise moment in history, yet Shadow of the Depth manages to entertain and offer a good level of challenge, so why shouldn't we consider it? The various classes offer distinct gameplay, and the ability to equip a warrior with a mage's items and successfully field test them opens the door to different builds to explore. Skill trees are lacking, and perks are not as crucial, but the growth of heroes run after run is evident and invites one to throw in the classic "last try." Nothing new, but all well implemented.

Shadow of the Depth shows promise amidst its early access voyage, but it’s navigating through murky waters. The addition of new characters and weapons holds potential, but a clearer roadmap is essential to steer the game in the right direction. Nevertheless, the diverse characters and engaging hack-n-slash rogue-like elements make it a journey worth embarking on for those brave enough to dive into the depths.

For under 15 euros, it’s one of the more solid dungeon crawlers out there, and a perfect pick-up-and-play experience for fans of the genre. It’s the kind of indie gem that you can recommend for just about anyone, thanks to a low barrier of entry and a solid difficulty curve that makes repetition a joy.
