SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

Though SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is not the Gals Fighters 2 we may have been hoping for, it is a very daft, very fast, and fun brawler. There is a serious question of longevity to be considered, and veteran players should consider the game's simplicity before purchase. But in a group setting, or among newcomers, sisterhood of sluggers will get the job done, looking fabulous while doing so.

If you're new to fighting games - or you're simply in the market for something that feels like a bona fide arcade fighting experience - there are few titles as easy to pick up as SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. Its busty and over-sexualised characters might not be to everyone's taste in 2018 - and the use of Dream Finishers definitely won't be of appeal to purists - but look beyond the garish colours and there's a tag-team brawler with real potential, not to mention plenty of hilarity.

While SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy has the potential to be a fun hunk of cheese and fanservice, ultimately it relies too much on the game's premise to carry things.

SNK Heroines is a soulless and embarrassing game pandering to an audience that doesn't exist. The perfect gift for your worst enemy.

Precisely what the target audience may be for this fighting game is hard for me to say, its weird dress-up elements not being quite as controversial as the watered down mechanics of it all. The thing is, if for whatever reason you get a kick out of the ability to customize your fighters looks to a degree this unique feature (or at least the all-female roster) may well be a selling point. Overall it’s just a decent fighter up against a pretty wide spectrum of titles from more traditional to modern and more hardcore to mainstream, sitting somewhere roughly in the middle across the board.

SNK Heorines is a game for fans of these fighters who like to collect objects. The game itself did not have to be bad for using the sexualization of the fighters as the main attraction. This is not criticized here, what is criticized is the lack of emotion in the fighting and the lack of ambition on the part of SNK to release a more elaborate and better product.

I’d say play SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy if you’re a die hard SNK fan, or you fancy something new for your pugilist palette, or just in the market for a random weekend game to play with friends. Just don’t expect anything revolutionary. Or tell your mother what you’ve spent your money on.

Overall, SNK Heroines is a fairly solid fighter, so if you can look past a lackluster story mode (as is the case with many fighters, though some have had exceptional stories) and/or are drawn to heavy fanservice, you will likely enjoy this title quite a bit, thanks, in no small part, to the accessible gameplay and depth of customization.

A quirky, fun game at its core; one which will poke fun at its own expense and yours, so long as you're able to laugh with it.
