Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a well-made tie-in, despite a few limits and shortcomings. It largely does justice to the original work.

At Solo Leveling’s best, you really feel like the Solo Leveller himself—a unequivocal badass that leaves blood, guts, and edge in his growing shadow. Here’s a recommendation for Sung Jinwoo’s sheer hubris and longform level grinding. ∎

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is far from the worst action game I’ve played, and its existence means that it’ll still live on even after the main game goes down. But rather than fully reworking progression into something a little more player-friendly a-la Octopath Traveller 0, or going for a companion game like Atelier Resleriana, Arise Overdrive finds itself being held back by a lack of changes in the switch to a paid game.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a stylish action RPG with punchy combat and a faithful early-story adaptation, but it’s held back by grindy, opaque progression, always‑online headaches, and lingering mobile-game baggage. If you like Solo Leveling and enjoy the grind enough to overlook some jank, it’s easy to have fun here.

ARISE OVERDRIVE is not just a cash in on webtoon popularity but a full circle tribute to the medium that raised it, capturing the energy, pacing, and emotional highs that made Solo Leveling a global force in digital storytelling. The game succeeds because it understands exactly what made the original special, honoring its webtoon roots while retelling the narrative with respect and delivering action gameplay that fully lives up to the Shadow Monarch legacy. Whether you are a longtime reader or stepping into Sung Jinwoo journey for the first time, this stands as one of the strongest webtoon to game adaptations released so far.

Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE is a double-sided work, where the combat system is well designed and satisfying, but with a gameplay structure anchored to the mobile version of the title. Although the graphic impact of the characters and the fidelity of the animations manage to capture the attention, the overall experience ends up being inevitably diluted by an overly fragmented narrative, environments lacking in detail and technical issues. We are faced with a solid but still rough base, a title that will require substantial corrective measures and additional post-launch content to express its true potential.

You would think adapting Sung Jinwoo's rise to power would be easy, especially given its action-heavy focus, but Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive will prove you terribly wrong.

Time will tell if the development team fills the holes it needs to for this game to become a true retelling of Solo Leveling, or if it remains more about fan service.
