Though its gameplay can be entertaining enough in short bursts and its art looks nice, SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off proves to be a disappointing take on the beloved IP. Shallow gameplay, performance issues, and weird controls make for an experience that's simply 'ok' at best. Considering that you can also access a version of this game on your phone for free, we can't fully recommend that you spring for this one. There are much worse things you could buy off the eShop, but SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off simply doesn't offer enough value for its asking price.

With a campaign that gets boring fast and gameplay that manages to be as tedious as it is frantic, it's hard to recommend this Cook Off. 🥞

SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off - Extra Krusty Edition might not be the most mechanically deep food serving sim, but it remains a very entertaining and addictive one nonetheless, and will be enjoyed immensely by fans of the series, whether they are casual gamers or seasoned veterans. That being said, the price is kind of steep for what is basically a port of a free mobile game minus the microtransactions and ads, and one that also has couple of bugs that haven’t been patched and probably never will.

Spongebob Squarepants: Krusty Cook-Off – Extra Krusty Edition is a fun game that is built on a casual gaming backbone and runs well on the Nintendo Switch. While it will never reach the impressive gameplay heights of the Overcooked series, Spongebob Squarepants: Krusty Cook-Off – Extra Krusty Edition delivers fun levels, good controls, and enough reason to return to it over and over again.

Despite a fun premise overall, SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off is tough to recommend. Apart from its high price tag, it also lacks the touchscreen controls that made the original so fun. It’s missing some of the heart of the series, which could have been addressed with some simple audio cues. I actually enjoyed my time with this game, but it would be a better purchase if picked up on sale. A big sale.

SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off is fun, but has strange oversights.

Ah, licensed games... Though in more recent history they haven't been quite as much of a scourge as in generations past they have a tendency to either be a surprise, making terrific use of the property, or what feels like a thin coat of familiarity to slap on an otherwise lacking experience...
