"Fun combat without depth" Terran Armada focuses entirely on expanding Starfield's combat aspect with space battles and the Incursions system, along with welcome customization improvements and a new companion. However, it suffers from glaring repetition, weak narrative, and a lack of genuine innovation. The result is a functional expansion that delivers enjoyable additional content for combat fans, but it doesn't quite reach the level of a significant addition to the overall experience.

The Terran Armada could have been a bigger threat, or at least I wanted them to be. While I highly enjoyed the story, the new weapons, new companion and other features, I wanted just a little more from the Terrans. During the last mission, it comes to point where I wish the story would have given you a different opportunity, maybe even the ability to join the Terrans as a new faction. I would have loved to see the Terrans utilized a little more because they felt like a big threat.

Almost three years after the release of Starfield, Bethesda brings us a second expansion that, while not exceptional, offers a more than good reason to return to this universe. Terran Armada isn’t groundbreaking content. Nor is it enough to convince everyone who didn’t enjoy the game back then that it’s now worth giving it a try. However, for those who immersed themselves in this universe without any preconceptions, it’s a more than decent excuse to return.

Starfield’s arrival on PS5 brings one of this generation’s most significant RPGs to Sony users, despite its flaws. Its release, coinciding with the Free Lanes update and the Terran Armada DLC, offers an extremely content-rich package overall. Although Terran Armada adds a lot to the mix, of the two updates it is Free Lanes that most significantly enhances the experience: the new free interplanetary travel system adds a much-needed element and breathes new life into Bethesda’s space opera. Finally, the excellent implementation of the DualSense is worth noting, with its features utilised to the full to make the controls more comfortable and intuitive.

Terran Armada is a solid, rich expansion, capable of offering hours of gameplay between campaign and secondary activities, but which fails to make that definitive leap in quality that many expected.
