Stolen Realm is a game that teeters on the brink of greatness, offering a compelling blend of tactical depth, rapid-paced combat and rich customization. Its engaging co-op gameplay, innovative combat system and the sheer variety of skills and loot make for a potentially-captivating experience. Yet its full potential is hindered by significant balancing issues that disrupt the gameplay balance, oscillating between overly tedious and unduly challenging encounters. For the intrepid adventurer willing to look beyond these flaws, Stolen Realm offers a world brimming with magic, strategy and the promise of epic tales. For the game to truly capture the hearts of its players and secure its place in the annals of gaming history, however, it must address these critical balancing issues. Until then, Stolen Realm remains a gem in need of polishing, a testament to the challenges and triumphs of game development.

The pros and cons of this turn-based combat experience balance themselves out giving us some highs and some lows. Although I only played solo, I can imagine a multiplayer experience to be quite fun. For those not typically drawn to the genre, I would pass on this one. For the rest of us, I’d wait for a sale if anything about the game piques your interest. For fans of the genre or those that found something interesting about the game, I would suggest waiting for a sale. The games bright spots warrant a playthrough, but the lows can be a bit of a bummer. (At the time of this writing it is currently on a 50% off sale, which I would absolutely recommend at this price).

While it has a cool sense of visual style and could be a good sandbox tactical RPG for the right crowd, it has issues

Stolen Realm is an interesting hybrid son of Dungeons & Dragons, with a very functional "hexagonal" game system, but overall it is a project with strong and obvious production limitations.

Stolen Realm is a fun RPG to play with friends and by yourself, especially if you don't have the time or resources to set an entire campaign. Make sure you know what you're doing and you'll come out fine.

There really isn’t much of a story hook at all, nor do you make any key choices of what happens. Instead, Stolen Realm should be completely approached like a loot RPG such as Diablo 4. You are here to grind, make builds, and get progressively stronger. This is great for fans of dungeon crawlers who don’t really need anything else. But if you prefer a strong plot or setting, Stolen Realm doesn’t have it.

Stolen Realm has so much potential to be great, but it needs a lot of polish and fine-tuning before it can really make a mark. The lack of story is somewhat balanced out by the combat mechanics, but that also needs a bit more work to keep things interesting. While the music leans more toward the monotonous side of things, the voice acting is the saving grace in that regard. However, what really shines above everything else is just how well implemented the low poly world is and how it interacts with the hex block design for combat strategy.
