Space Invaders may be a monumental entry in the history of gaming, but it's not exactly the most enjoyable title in the Switch era. Super Destronaut DX-2 is if Taito's debut title got a handful of QoL updates and thrown smack dab in the middle of a rave. It's a solid entry in the arcade genre if you're into classic space shooters.

A much better shoot-’em-up than the first game in this series, Super Destronaut DX-2 looks like Space Invaders and plays like Twin Bee. It only has a few hours of content but there’s enough variety here so that those hours feel like they’re well spent. Score chasers might find some longevity but there are much better titles in this genre to spend your time with.

We all know about games from Ratalaika; massively varied in quality, cross-buy, trophy-filled, and sometimes even enjoyable. I liked the first Destronaut, so hopefully this follow-up will not be too far away in quality and entertainment. Super Destronaut DX-2 is akin to supercharged Space Invaders. While being a fairly simple game, it has some redeemable qualities and I think the sequel does bring along a few new bells and whistles to separate it from its predecessor.

Super Destronaut DX-2 certainly scratches that arcade itch. If you like simple high score chasing space shooters this is one of the good price titles in that category. It doesn’t do much to reinvent the formula, but I can easily see myself jumping back into this during a much-needed coffee break. Though I do imagine I will probably forget to drink my coffee.

Arcade shooters are something I've been enjoying since their infancy in the Space Invaders and Asteroids days, and I've really enjoyed the modern retro movement in the indie space that has embraced classic looks and play styles and given them some modern flourish...
