Sometimes it nails its South Park-esque situational gags, and sometimes it doesn’t. Yet if you can tolerate the occasional cringe, push through the rough edges, and aren’t easily offended by literal obscenity, you’ll find a meaty 20-hour retro adventure waiting for you. Maybe it’s a little too long for its own good, given the limited mechanics, but still, for an albeit very specific audience, Edge of Allegoria is absolutely a ride worth jumping on.
Read full review ↗Ultimately, it is precisely this blend of modernity and nostalgia that makes the experience so special. We rediscover sensations reminiscent of our childhood, while exploring a world that is richer and darker than it appears. Because let's be clear: despite its innocent appearance, The Edge of Allegoria is not a game for children.
Read full review ↗The Edge of Allegoria is a game that captures the nostalgic Game Boy vibe with nice pixel visuals and a charming soundtrack tied to tried ‘n tested mechanics that are bolstered to a sense of humour that will probably be a little divisive, although it does give the game its roguish character.
Read full review ↗The Edge of Allegoria is a fun game that looks and feels like Pokemon, but with shades of Deadpool and South Park.
Read full review ↗The Edge of Allegoria is an interesting homage to the 8-bit RPGs that defined an era and captured the hearts of many fans. However, its satirical tone and adult approach—in theory, its greatest strengths—are questionable, especially when we notice the inconsistent quality of humor and a general blasé attitude that hinders rather than helps the experience. Ultimately, nostalgic players who enjoy odd doses of dark humor may find some enjoyment in this twisted world; for everyone else, the reality is that there are better universes to visit in the name of nostalgia for a time gone by.
Read full review ↗A dumb fun Retro RPG with smart mechanics and a sense of humour as salty as South Park.
Read full review ↗It's easy to recommend The Edge of Allegoria for its combat, which is truly engaging, and there are few RPGs that don't take dozens of hours to complete. The tone and level design flaws, however, somewhat diminish the allegories' brilliance.
Read full review ↗An RPG where I love the game, hate the story. Never thought it possible, but here we are.
Read full review ↗The Edge of Allegoria is a retro turn-based RPG filled with dark humor and satire. Its weapon mastery system is clever, though balance issues and grinding keep it from greatness.
