When all's said and done, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic revamp of perhaps Nintendo's most sublime sequel. What was once a technical marvel on aged hardware now has a chance to truly shine, with visual and performance boosts undoubtedly making it the definitive way to play.Nothing will ever match the feeling of playing it for the first time, of course, and some bonus content would have been welcome, but armed with Zelda Notes and the promise of buttery smooth upgrades, I'd challenge anyone to dip back in without losing hours to its unrivalled wonder.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a truly generational game. It improves on all aspects of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. The narrative balances various tones and progresses the character arcs of its major protagonists, while introducing new and compelling NPCs. Further, the gameplay only enhances one of gaming's greatest sandboxes with a new fantastic line of abilities, activities, dungeons, and boss fights. Everything about Tears of the Kingdom is perfect, and as far as I'm concerned, it's one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life.

In short, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition is a very worthwhile upgrade to the original. It improves on the base Switch version in every way, being every bit as engaging now as it was when it first launched in 2023. Owners of the original release can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for £7.99/$20, and newcomers can pick up the game (that still works on Switch) for £66/$109.

If you didn’t like Zelda as an open world, the Switch 2 remaster of Tears of the Kingdom might not make you a believer, but you still might find yourself losing track of time. This is an incredibly immersive and engrossing experience despite some of the annoying design choices. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but pound per pound, there isn’t any other 3D single-player game packed with as much content as this.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition elevates an already memorable adventure to new heights. The technical improvements — such as smooth 60 fps gameplay, 4K resolution with HDR, and near-instant loading times — make exploration even more enjoyable, despite some lingering limitations. Additionally, the support for Zelda Notes adds useful and interesting features to the experience, although its implementation through an external app limits its practical potential. In the end, this new version preserves the charm and depth of the original journey, now with refinements that enhance immersion and make the return to Hyrule more captivating than ever.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom remains every bit the masterpiece it proved to be at launch, an audacious evolution built on the foundations of a game that redefined the open-world genre, and one that dares to push even further, delivering an experience so ambitious and visionary that few ever thought it could be realized.
