The Symbiant is a BL / Yaoi / Gay visual novel about two men, both from vastly different worlds, embracing their sexuality and their newfound romance. It is also a tale of interstellar friendship and being gay in space!

Story and worldbuilding

In the year 5066, Danya and his alien friend Juniper are manning The Ameretat, a humble spaceship that transports goods across the Milky Way. After a troubled transport gig that left their beloved ship in need of repair and their bank account empty, the team is offered a generous deal they cannot refuse: transporting a beautiful and mysterious alien who calls himself Brahve. Sometimes at night, Danya hears strange things from Brahve's room. What could he be hiding in there? And how will it affect the connection that's quickly growing between the two men?

I had an excellent experience with The Symbiant, but my biggest gripe has got to be just how relatively short it is to go through it all. Nonetheless, I laughed a lot at the interactions with Brahve and Danya, perhaps even more than I should. The adult patch is not for the faint-hearted, but if you’re willing to be “brave” (pun intended), then maybe this short experience is just what you need.

Despite the simplicity in all aspects of this visual novel and the narrative not being as interesting or well written as it could have been considering its lore potential and the concept of symbiosis in a relationship, The Symbiant still ends up as a pleasant experience. Above all else, the plot has good characters and a beautiful couple. With some reservations, this title is recommended for BL fans interested in a sci-fi background and a western style of acting.
