Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.

If you want a technical, fast-paced 3D fighting game with great netcode, you can't go wrong with VF5 REVO--but make sure your system runs it well first.

This isn’t an overwhelmingly huge update and new release of the game, but rather a way to give new and old players alike a taste of the classic fighting game.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a highly successful remake, probably the best way to relive this historic installment today. It doesn't offer a memorable narrative or a particularly rich single-player offering outside of World Stage, but it makes up for it with a still-exceptional combat system, an online experience that's finally up to date, and a very solid technical implementation even on Switch 2. For those who want to rediscover the series or rediscover it in its most refined form, it's really hard to ask for more.

In VF5: R.E.V.O. the gameplay and content have never been better. This version feels like the complete package, even if visually it is starting to look long in the tooth.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O is just a Virtua Fighter 5 game with an extra step, when it could have been the game to bring the spotlight into this ancient franchise just before the upcoming major Virtua Fighter release, but it is just about the same 2006 game re-released in 2025

However, I don't want to end this review without highlighting the downsides of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage. On the one hand, it's great that the base game is available for €19.99, which is a more than fair price to enjoy some good games and indulge in nostalgia for a few hours.

Players who are already happy with the PS4 version of Virtua Fighter 5 will find very little that’s exciting, but that doesn’t change that this is still one of the best fighting games you can buy even nineteen years after it was first released. Rollback netcode absolutely makes this the best version of it for anyone who isn’t desperate for a single-player experience.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. takes the gameplay of Virtua Fighter 5 and raises it to new levels! Rollback Netcode support, gorgeous 4K visuals and additional content make it the best version of this legendary game ever.

Let's take this re-release of Virtua Fighter 5 as an offline training room on which to train and challenge our friends locally, so that we can get to the sixth chapter, crossing our fingers about necessary improvements on the next-gen netcode rollback.

In a way, this is easily the best version of Virtua Fighter 5 ever made. I love the crisp visuals, rock-solid performance, and I appreciate the brand new rollback netcode. I am, however, disappointed at how paultry the single player content is.
