The team hasn't gone mad with any new additions or tweaks to the core experience, but when the original game remains such a bonafide classic more than 20 years after its release, it really doesn't need much tinkering with. The added bonus of the Game Boy Color version alongside a wealth of interesting interviews and archive footage make this release a perfect entry point for newcomers as well as a warm, nostalgic cuddle for veterans.

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is a success in many ways, a classic game preserved on modern consoles, where the only flaw was the lack of crossplay, but bringing everything from the original game makes you forget about those flaws a little. And the content compensates even for those interested in the story and behind-the-scenes details.

The Worms franchise is the very definition of a gaming evergreen, and if you think your math skills are sharp enough, and that you can endure the one-of-a-kind moments this game throws at you (without killing the friend you’re playing with in hot seat mode), then this is one title you shouldn’t miss.

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is a faithful remaster of a great strategy party game, complete with four retro bonus games and intriguing snapshots of the series' history that mark it as an excellent effort to preserve and celebrate Worms. It's also a testament to the timeless quality of the source material, still enjoyable after more than a quarter of a century—however, the remaster's conservatism that proves its resistance to time is also what leaves us lamenting the lack of new content and quality-of-life tweaks.

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition doesn’t try to outdo its successors, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a faithful update of a classic, full of personality, and still great fun in the right setting… you know… with a few beers with friends who still want to reminisce about the ‘good old days’. While its age shows in places, the added content and care taken in its re-release make it a worthy addition to any Worms fan’s collection.

While sometimes it’s better to stick to the memories of classic games gone by, there’s no doubt that this is a classic worth being able to revisit all the same… for those already familiar

If you're a fan of the series, it's an enjoyable way to play it despite the clunky controls, but if you're a new player you should expect a steep learning curve. The classic Worms games are neat to play around with for an hour or two, but are not worth buying the game just to see.
