An unconventional introduction soon gives way to an otherwise forgettable survival-horror game chasing nostalgia.

If you’re into classic Resident Evil, or House of the Dead, then this is a no-brainer. It feels modern enough to not put off players perturbed by old-school presentation, yet it also feels traditional enough to make nostalgic players happy as well. It’s the perfect middle ground.

You Will Die Here Tonight is a fascinating twist on the survival horror genre, taking inspiration from one of the most niche games in the Resident Evil franchise: Gaiden. It has fantastic level designs and almost no hand-holding whatsoever. However, not all these ideas work, leaving You Will Die Here Tonight with a fun, but not entirely solid, spin on the retro horror genre.

You Will Die Here Tonight begins as a great indie homage to Resident Evil and then develops to be a fantastic take on survival horror in its own right. While there are a few unpolished aspects here and there the overall experience is a stand out in a genre that is so often defined by slavish adherence to tropes and traditions. Any self-respecting fan of survival horror owes it to themselves to face the evil residence and find out the true horrors awaiting within.

You Will Die Here Tonight could easily be described as a game that blends the best of Resident Evil with The House of the Dead. While the inspiration is obvious, it also goes out of its way to be a unique experience in its own right.

YOU WILL DIE HERE TONIGHT takes everything we loved from Resident Evil (1996) while changing the bits that haven’t aged so well.

If you're a fan of classic horror games and especially the Resident Evil series, you might like this. Even if you die for sure. You Will Die Here Tonight tries to pay homage to classic horror movies, and very successfully.

You Will Die Here Tonight wears its Resident Evil inspiration like a badge of honour, but still manages to stand out as a unique and entertaining survival horror experience. Everything about the world and character design, the narrative, and the puzzling will take you back to Capcom’s iconic release, but the game has enough of its own clever ideas with the first-person combat, the time loop, and the unravelling of the ‘true’ ending to ensure it deserves plenty of praise on its own merits alone. I had a really good time playing through it, and whilst the combat was guilty of being a little easy at times, it never stopped being fun blasting away at the vicious undead and finding out just what the hell is going on. Just be warned: you will die here tonight, but it’s the only way you’ll find a way to survive the ordeal.

You Will Die Here Tonight is one of the most unique horror games I’ve played. While being a satirical love letter to a favorite franchise of mine, the game does not sacrifice an intensely scary atmosphere or undeniable originality in its mechanics and writing. This is a must-have Halloween release that is sure to surprise and hook you like it did me.
